Königssee is a natural lake located in Bavaria (Bayern) in southern Germany, and situated within Berchtesaden Alps (Berchtesgadener Alpen). Konigssee is 7.7 km long (4.8 mi) with a depth of up to 190 metres (620 ft). The lake was formed by glaciers during the last ice age and is deeply nestled between towering cliffs at the foot of the Watzmann East Wall in the heart of the Berchtesgaden National Park. Konigssee lake is known for its clear emerald green water, advertised as the cleanest lake in Germany.
19 fully electric boats operated by Bavarian Lakes Shipping Company (Bayerische Seenschifffahrt GmbH) are sailing all year round from Seelande port to St. Bartholomä peninsula and then to Salet, from where a hiking trail leads to Lake Obersee and Rothbach Waterfall (Röthbachfall), the highest waterfall in Germany (470 m ~ 1540 ft).
