Is this the World’s Worst Court Sketch?

In this video, I share the story behind a “unique” court sketch created back in nineteen 1998. As an Albuquerque reporter working an exclusive story that reached across the Atlantic Ocean, frustration at failing to capture the “money shot” resulted in, shall we say, a “primitive” result after putting pencil to paper with the absolute absence of an artistic hand.

Join me as I take a humorous look back at this moment in my journalism career, reflecting on how this sketch came to be, the reactions it sparked, and what it taught me about rolling with the unexpected. If you’ve ever wondered about plunging into a creative challenge outside your lane (and under pressure), you won’t want to miss this. Is this really the world’s worst court sketch? You be the judge!

Note: This video briefly discusses the work of Tony Hillerman, an internationally acclaimed writer known for his vivid depictions of Navajo life and the landscapes of New Mexico. The use of a book cover image including Mr. Hillerman’s photo in this video is for educational and commentary purposes, aligning with fair use principles. The image is presented in a transformative manner to complement the discussion of Hillerman’s literary contributions.
