Nylon Spacers and Better Balance Compass Magnet Motor

The quest to make our Compass Magnet Motor faster goes on.

In this video we use a paperclip to guide the lower axle, change out the brass spacers with nylon ones and balance the bottom of the armature much better.

It should still be able to go faster based on the torque and friction because the north end of the magnets are not quite pointing towards Earth's West where they would have the maximum torque.

When the compass magnet motor is running smoothly the magnet stay still and do not swing side to side. When the armature starts to shake that makes the magnets swing side to side and go out of phase.

The reasoning behind using nylon spacers instead of brass ones was that Lenz's Law effect was interfering as the magnet passed each upright brass spacer. To some extent that was true but not the issue causing the shaking.

The issue with the shaking was caused mostly by the bottom of the armature being out of balance. But there could also be interference with the magnets turning past the batteries and electronics under the bottom disc.

Stay tuned:)
