Learning to swim? Why your swimming technique doesn’t matter

Swimming technique is important. But before you begin perfecting your swimming stroke for speed or efficiency, you need to get comfortable in the water first.

You need to take the time to experiment and play. Discover the properties of the water on your own. Learn what happens when you change the way you kick or move your arms. Experiments with different breathing patterns.

Don’t just blindly follow your swimming teacher without trying doing things in your own way. Being playful in the water will prepare you for the time when something unexpected happens or when you get injured. When you get tired or cramp up.

Swimming is more than just putting one arm in front of the other and kicking as hard as you can. Try it, it’s more fun than just doing lap after lap.

I talk about anything that is related to swimming, water safety, and water sports. If you would like to offer a collaboration or a joined video together, please reach out via email or Twitter / X.
