Kirchhoff's voltage law (KVL), loop rule or first (1st) law is based on the conservation of energy. Problems and solutions that apply KCL (the current (or 2nd) law or junction rule) and KVL are deferred to the following tutorial. KVL can also be applied to parallel circuits. The conventional current sign convention is used.
