Tourist Wants To Take A Closer Look At Plane Taking
Tourists gathering at this runway can experience a different kind of takeoff as it’s so close to a beach the force from the airplane engines can blow them over. This jaw-dropping footage, captured at Skiathos Airport on the Greek island Skiathos, begins with a passenger plane Airbus A321-231 taxiing towards the runway for takeoff.
As it turns and sets on the runway, which is bookended by the Aegean Sea, the engines rev up sending an initial blast of air towards beachgoers gathered around only 30ft from the runway. The huge gusts build as the engines begin to thrust, making the vegetation wave wildly, with the raw power making it difficult for onlookers to stand still without holding onto the fence.
And as the plane speeds along the runway for takeoff, it sends people flying backwards if they aren’t holding onto the fence. As a large plane was taking off, the man filming this video was blown away by the jet blast and fell to the ground.
The incredible video was captured by tourist Paul Turner, from Cheshire, UK, who runs camera stabilizer company Smoothshot. He also filmed planes flying just feet overhead when landing on the same runway, on May 11 2018. This is some serious matter since there are cases of people who have accidentally been killed by jet-engine blasts for being too curious.
Several footages shot nearby a tourist attraction in Skiathos, feature a jet blast at the beach sweeping into onlookers near the Skiathos Airport. A tourist though that it would be fun to try and confront the powerful jet blast, and film his close encounter on camera. However, numerous onlookers have reportedly been killed by a jet blast after a plane was taking off nearby, accidentally knocking them down, inflicting them with severe injuries.
Footage shows two tourists standing at a fence that separates the beach from the runway at Skiathos Airport, filming the powerful jet blast from a close distance. We can feel the strong jet blast only by watching this video, we can only imagine what the real feel is, judging by the fact that the man got blown over by the blast.
In the next footage we can see a plane approaching the runway from the skies, landing low above tourists’ heads who are gathered around the fence, waiting to get their adrenaline rush.
The area has become a popular, albeit dangerous, tourist attraction for those seeking to feel the powerful winds of an aircraft's jet-engine revving for takeoff just yards away. There have been minor injuries in the past as a result of people trying to stand in the jet blast while clinging to the fence. Police do not have an official number of how many injuries have occurred at Skiathos Airport.
It is amazing how there are numerous tourists standing at the fence that separate the beach and runway and are often blown away by departing and incoming planes.
The Skiathos Airport is a popular attraction for airplane enthusiasts due to its location. Landing planes pass close over the heads of beachgoers, almost close enough to touch. Departing planes are also an attraction. Due to the short runway, large airplanes have to give their jet engines full gas in order to get off the ground. These jet blasts are strong enough to blow beach visitors over.
