Smilodon is an extinct species of sabre-toothed cat that was widespread in America. Because of their size, they were also known as sabre-toothed tigers. There were three species of Smilodon. These sabre-toothed cats became extinct about 12000 years ago. Smilodon was a carnivore and hunted mammoths, deer and other creatures that lived on earth at the time.
