He Said, She Said: Trump’s Jan. 6 ‘Day of Love,’ Harris Says He’s ‘Gaslighting’Former President Donald Trump this week got himself into hot water by calling Jan. 6, 2021 – the day a mob of Trump supporters descended on the Capitol – a “day of love.”

Trump was participating in a Univision town hall Wednesday night with Latino voters, one of whom called himself a Republican and wanted to give Trump an opportunity to win back his vote, saying he was alarmed by what took place on Jan. 6.

In response, Trump defended his actions that day. “But that was a day of love from the standpoint of the millions, it’s like hundreds of thousands,” he said
“They didn’t come because of me,” Trump said of the rioters. “They came because of the election. They thought the election was a rigged election and that’s why they came. Some of those people went down to the Capitol, I said, peacefully and patriotically. Nothing done wrong at all.”

But then he switched his language to say “we” when referring to the crowd, seemingly calling Capitol Police “the others.”

“And action was taken, strong action,” Trump said. “Ashli Babbitt was killed. Nobody was killed. There were no guns down there. We didn’t have guns. The others had guns, but we didn’t have guns. And when I say ‘we’ these are people that walk down, this was a tiny percentage of the overall, which nobody sees and nobody shows.” (Five people died in connection to Jan. 6.)

At the end of his answer, he said he “probably” didn’t win back the voter
