Archaeologists excavating the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica in Bulgaria announced the discovery of a head belonging to a recently unearthed headless male sculpture. Both pieces were found within the Cloaca Maxima, the main canal of the Roman sewer system.
Finding a statue in a sewer is rather unusual, but in Heraclea Sintica, they found two. The first was discovered in July 2024, near the place where the second one was unearthed, tucked away against the opposite wall of the sewer.
