Former Australian ambassador to the US Joe Hockey claims Donald Trump’s latest policy announcement “neatly marries” two of the former president’s promises.

On Donald Trump’s final day of campaigning, he has promised to impose tariffs on Mexico to slow down the flow of illegal immigrants into America if re-elected.

“It neatly marries two of Donald Trump’s policies,” Mr Hockey told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“One is to stop the illegal flow of people out of Mexico into the United States … and the second is his love of tariffs.

“He conveys a message very effectively.”
