Video Transcript:
Hi my name is Alysha Dosanjh, a licensed counselor and founder of Inspire Wellness Therapy. And today I want to talk to you about a really important chemical in our brain called dopamine. Dopamine plays a big role in our emotional and cognitive wellbeing, and the lack of it can seriously impact our mental health.

First, let's talk about dopamine deficiency. Think of dopamine as your brain's feel good fuel. When it's low, it's like running on empty. This can contribute to conditions like depression, anxiety, and even neurodivergency because you're left feeling unmotivated, tired, and unable to enjoy things that would normally bring you joy. It's also harder to regulate stress and emotions when dopamine is lacking, which is why anxiety can often worsen to.

Dopamine doesn't work well. It's part of a team and collaborates with other neurotransmitters quite closely. One of them will be focusing on is serotonin. While dopamine is linked to pleasure and motivation, serotonin help stabilize our move. When these two things aren't maybe balanced, think of it like a seesaw that's often tipping too far to one side.

We experience symptoms such as moose swings, irritability, or even a sense of feeling off. Some signs that your dopamine might be low include lack of motivation, difficulty focusing, or just feeling bloch for no apparent reason. In depression, it shows up as a loss of pleasure called anhedonia, and for those with ADHD, low dopamine makes it hard to concentrate and manage impulsivity.

As we get older it's very natural for dopamine levels to decline. This can lead to slower thinking and even contribute to mental health issues like depression or in severe cases, Huntington's or Parkinson's disease. This makes addressing dopamine-related concerns even more important as we age.

Understanding the role of dopamine can really help us make sense of our mood fluctuations, motivation, and overall mental health.
