Acts 21:26-40 - For the Multitude Cried Out, “Away with Him!”

At James’ request, Paul participates in ritual cleansing to appease the religious Jews in Jerusalem. Before the time he will be required to make the obligatory sacrifice, however, Jews from Asia (modern day Turkey) arrive and “stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who teaches all men everywhere against the people, the law, and this place… (Acts 21:28 NKJV). Roman centurions arrive to rescue him from the mob, who was beating him, and carry him away to the barracks. “For the multitude of the people followed after, crying out, ‘Away with him’” (Acts 21:36 NKJV)!
Pastor Kevin explains the significance of the ritual cleansing and sacrifice cited here and relates to current preparations for the Third Temple. We see again man’s insistence upon religion and religious tradition above a relationship with Jesus.
