"It's good for me. Makes me feel useful." Netflix has revealed an official trailer for a comedy series called A Man on the Inside, which will be streaming later in November. This is the next series from Mike Schur, known for creating "Parks & Rec", "The Good Place", "Brooklyn Nine-Nine". This time he's borrowing from another source - this fun series is based on Oscar-nominated Chilean documentary film called The Mole Agent, which was included as one of my favorite documentaries of 2020. Retired professor Charles feels life has nothing new in store for him. He’s become stuck in his routine and grown distant from his daughter. But when he spies a classified ad from a private investigator, he’s inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure, going undercover into the Pacific View Retirement Home in San Francisco to solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom. Ted Danson stars with Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Stephanie Beatriz, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and a cast including: Sally Struthers, Margaret Avery, John Getz, Susan Ruttan, Lori Tan Chinn, Clyde Kusatsu, Marc Evan Jackson, Jama Williamson, Wyatt Yang, and Deuce Basco. I'm a big fan of this doc already and this series looks like an amusing take on the cozy concept.

Here's the official trailer for Mike Schur's series A Man on the Inside, direct from Netflix's YouTube:

Retired professor Charles (Ted Danson) feels life has nothing new in store for him. A year after his wife's passing, he's stuck in his routine & grown distant from his daughter Emily (Mary Elizabeth Ellis). But when he spies a classified ad from private investigator Julie (Lilah Richcreek Estrada), he's inspired to roll the dice on a new adventure. Charles' mission: to go undercover inside the Pacific View Retirement Home and solve the mystery of a stolen family heirloom. Everyone, residents & staff, is a potential suspect, and it's up to Charles to solve the case without landing on the radar of Didi (Stephanie Beatriz), the all-seeing, all-knowing director of Pacific View. Keeping a low profile proves difficult as the affable Charles quickly endears himself to his fellow residents. Being a "man on the inside" sends him on an exciting journey that makes him realize there is a lot more life left to be had — and allows him to reconnect with his daughter.

A Man on the Inside is a comedy series created by acclaimed TV writer / producer Mike Schur, creator of "Parks and Recreation", "The Good Place", "Brooklyn Nine-Nine", "Rutherford Falls". Based on Academy Award-nominated documentary The Mole Agent directed by Chilean filmmaker Maite Alberdi. With writing by Sylvia Batey Alcalá and Lisa Muse Bryant. And episodes directed by Rebecca Asher and Morgan Sackett. Made by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group. Executive produced by Mike Schur (Fremulon), Morgan Sackett, David Miner (3 Arts Entertainment), Maite Alberdi and Marcela Santibañez (Micromundo Producciones), Julie Goldman and Christopher Clements (Motto Pictures). Netflix will debut A Man on the Inside streaming on Netflix starting on November 21st, 2024 this fall. Want to watch this?

Ted Danson is out to prove that old people can still crack a case or two.

The Cheers alum stars as an aimless widower who goes undercover at a retirement home in the new Netflix comedy A Man on the Inside, which premieres Thursday, Nov. 21 with all eight episodes, TVLine has learned.

Netflix has also released a trailer for the series, which you can watch above, with Danson playing Charles, a retired professor who is looking for his next chapter after the death of his wife. “Find something that excites you,” his daughter Emily (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Mary Elizabeth Ellis) encourages him, so he answers an ad to be an assistant for a local private detective. His first assignment: Find out who stole a cherished necklace at a nearby retirement home.

So Charles goes undercover as a new resident at the home, which is run by director Didi (Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Stephanie Beatriz). He starts to make new friends, including one played by TV icon Sally Struthers, and soon enough, he finds he might be getting a little too close to his subjects. The mission “sends Charles on an exciting journey that makes him realize there’s a lot more life left to be had — and allows him to reconnect with Emily in the process,” per the official description.

The series reunites Danson with The Good Place’s Michael Schur, who serves here as series creator and executive producer. The cast also includes Lilah Richcreek Estrada (Chicago Med), Stephen McKinley Henderson (Devs) and Eugene Cordero (Loki).
