One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Ravenna Tuesday.

Ravenna police say they responded to the Portage County Hike and Bike Trail in Ravenna around 11:45 a.m.

Officers were responding to a report about a man attacking another person with an ax.

Officers say they were rendering aid to the victim of the attack when the suspect approached, carrying the ax.

In bodycam video released Wednesday, the man wielding an ax can be seen approaching officers as they tell him to put the ax down and get on the ground.

Officers fired at least 10 shots after the man ignored officers orders.

The victim of the hatchet attack was transported to University Hospital with superficial wounds, police confirmed.

Police named the suspect as 43-year-old Matthew James Fries. Officers confirmed the man was homeless.

No officers were injured during the incident.
