Insurance Fraud Attempt in Queens, NY - October 16, 2024 (PART 1)

While driving eastbound in the left lane of the Belt Parkway towards the Southern State Parkway, a silver Honda (license plate LBB 8917) in the middle lane cut me off, then abruptly slammed on its brakes to a complete stop, likely hoping I would rear-end them. When I avoided collision, the Honda reversed into my car, and the occupants acted injured upon exiting the vehicle.

I suspect the incident was staged for insurance fraud. The Honda had a tarp over its rear windshield that fell off upon impact, revealing a male driver wearing a hat. He quickly shifted to the passenger seat before anyone exited. Three passengers exited, pretending to be hurt, while the original driver discreetly moved to a red Kia SUV (license plate KJH 3340), which had been following me at a distance. The Kia picked up the Honda's driver before driving away.

When the remaining three noticed my dashcam, their behavior changed. They only took photos of the damage and quickly asked for my insurance details before leaving. I reported the incident to the police, who advised that they no longer respond to non-injury accidents if both parties are willing to exchange information.

At the time, I didn’t realize the driver had left in another car, nor did I suspect a setup, as I was alone and the situation escalated quickly.
