Well, the second fall Extra CARicular Activity Car & Bike show had to be hurricane dated a month later due to hurricane Helene. The entire month of October was beautiful and dry.... until the night before the show. The Sunday morning was damp and dreary, but the forecast predicted little to no rain. That sure wasn't enough to damped the spirits of the show goers. Hundreds of people came out to support the Oaks Academy Alternative School's T-bucket building hot rod class taught by yours truly, John Worden. This show is all about our students. They make and restore the vintage trophies to be given out, they pick the classes, they judge the cars, and many of them are building the 283 powered '23 T-bucket kit. Most of the Oaks staff comes out to help with the car show and sell 50/50 tickets. The clouds cleared out and the day just got better as the show went on. 120 cars were entered and a triple of girls from the Early College side of the building played music and sang for the show goers. Food trucks and vendors kept the people's bellies full and everyone had fun. Paradise Road Hobby hosted the slot car and model car contest. Let me tell you, some of those models were as nice as the real cars in the show. Students got a chance to interview a few of the car guys to learn more about their cars and why they came to the show. At the end of the day nearly $3000 was raised to go towards the build of the T-bucket. It would be near impossible to find a more generous bunch the a bunch of hot rodders helping out kids. thanks to all who came out to support our school and the kids.
