Police horses training to deal with public disorder
"Hooves on the ground, propellers in the sky" - that's how one officer described the Scottish police's approach to dealing with public order.

After unrest in other parts of the UK over the summer, the spotlight has been on how to deal with protests and unrest.

Police say their approach is changing rapidly - with a combination of drones and horses now likely to be more useful in a riot situation than shields and batons.

The BBC was given exclusive access to the Scottish police's mounted unit training - meeting some experienced horses as well as some newbies just learning the ropes. @bbc.com October 17, 2024

Former First Minister Alex Salmond's body lands in Scotland on private flight

The body of former First Minister Alex Salmond has returned to Scotland, almost a week after his death in North Macedonia.

The privately chartered flight, paid for personally by Scottish businessman Sir Tom Hunter, landed at Aberdeen Airport just before 2pm on Friday.

The plane was met by Salmond's family and acting Alba Party leader Kenny MacAskill.

His body was then taken by hearse to a funeral home in Fraserburgh.

Before the private flight departed, a ceremony was held at Ohrid airport, with a North Macedonian military guard carrying Mr Salmond's coffin, draped in a saltire, to the plane.@stvnews
