Does your BJJ gym/academy have you start training rounds on your knees? Then this video is for you! Here are Instructor Tarl Reynoso's three favorite takedowns from the knees.

Honestly, learning the starting from knees moves is less important than most of the move sets we teach. Self defense situations and tournament matches never mutually agree to start on the knees. That said, it is incredibly frustrating to not know what to do from any given scenario, particularly from the knees starting position due to how often you find yourself in this position if your gym/academy starts on the knees. You can limit using this weird position via just starting from standing, positional drilling (starting from certain positions), or immediately pulling guard / half guard. Otherwise, if you do start rounds this way, we hope these techniques help you get to a top position quickly and limit the time wasted by many practitioners trying to just push each other over from the knees.
