Captain in Polish Army, defender of Wizna in 1939 against the invading German forces (XIX Panzer Corps). Outnumbered almost 1:60 (720 Polish defenders against 42 000 German invaders), captain Raginis and his men stood up bravely and put up strong defense, lasting 3 full days. Not willing to surrender, captain Raginis died defending his post. Because of the heroism of captain Raginis and his men Battle of Wizna is often called Polish Thermopylae.
