These Third Downs Killed The Cowboys Offense

Let’s take a real slow look at the three third downs in the middle of the game that killed the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are 3rd and 3 at the 40 with under 2 minutes to go in the first half. We have trips right with Jalen Brooks as the lone man on that side of the field (more on that later) and he’s going to run a go route . CeeDee goes in motion and now we’re going to go to watch the play frame by frame

The Cowboys first offensive position of the third quarter finds them down 13-10, but they have set themself up real nicely for 3rd and short thanks to a little screen pass to Lamb. We did this twice and both times I really liked the way Dak lead Lamb up the field so he had a running head start. Again the Cowboys are in trips, but this time to the left, with Jalen Brooks again being the lone man on the other side. The Cowboys really like this formation where they have 3 pass catchers to one side and one to the other, thankyou JTuck for pointing that out, which is a fine formation.

However, nearly half the time (yes i counted) we set up Jalen Brooks as the lone receiver. To me that makes no sense because Dak seems to refuse to look at Brooks as a viable receiver and as a result we lose half of the field. And if I noticed I am willing to bet the league has noticed it.

I mean look at this play…

On this 3rd down we’re in trips right, but this time CeeDee is the lone man at the top. Let’s take this play real slow again.

1st 3rd down of the fourth quarter, 5 yards to go. Cowboys are down 17 and we have trips left with Brooks as the lone man up top. We put lamb in motion and at the snap we’ll go real slow again

1 Chronicles 29 is a really cool account of how the Israelites came together to donate some of the resources required to build the temple of God. And they did it with joy. And to me, I really saw that you can do incredible things when you have multiple people working together with a good attitude. It was like an anti riot. Instead tearing things down in anger they gave resources in joy.

But immediately following that we see something amazing from David.

I love this. A recognition of Gods sovereignty.. The Israelites have just accomplished something admirable and David has an ego check and realizes that everything they just gave for God is already His. It reminds me of this quote, which dismantles the something called secularism can even exist.

There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry, Mine!
