Video Transcript:
Hi my name is Mindy, I'm a registered dietitian and owner of Mindy Roth Nutrition and I'm here today to talk about how to increase your metabolic rate and increase your fat burning potential naturally. Our metabolic rate does increase naturally as we go through certain processes as we age. But I want to focus on three key things today that would be physical activity, lifestyle, and nutrition.

So first I want to start talking about physical activity.
It's recommended that we combine our strength training and our cardiovascular training when we are doing our workouts. So what happens is that when we do high intensity exercises like continuous cardiovascular exercises, we tend to burn more calories, yes.

But evidence also shows that we also tend to overeat on those days. So if we combine the two, we're going to increase our muscle mass. We're going to increase our metabolic rate and it's actually going to promote fat loss.

The second is around nutrition. We want to make sure that we combine carbohydrates, lean proteins and healthy fats on each one of our meals and each one of our snacks. If we can manage by doing this, we can maintain our energy levels and avoid crashes in spikes in our blood sugars.

Also, I would recommend incorporating those lean proteins like eggs, fish in lagoons and also low-fat dairy into our meals and our snacks to promote our increased metabolic rate and fat loss.

And finally lifestyle and I'm talking. Sleep and stress management. It's recommended that we get seven to nine hours of good quality sleep every night. Lack of sleep can actually disrupt our hormones that affect our appetite and our metabolism.

Also, attempt to participate in stress reducing activities like yoga, meditation, and deep breathing, or any others that you could think of as well. When we are stressed, we have an increase in cortisol which actually promotes fat storage, particularly in our abdomen area.

Implementing these three things consistently can help increase your metabolic rate and increase your fat loss. But it's really important to try to find a balance between all of these things that fits in with your lifestyle and your health goals that can last you long term.
