Halloween Or Sauin Has Origins In Celtic Pagan Culture. It Marked The End Of Harvest And Welcomed The Start Of Winter.
Sauin Which Means November In Gaelic, Officially Begins Tomorrow (October 31st) At Sunset, Until Sunset On November 1st. This Is Especially Important In The Pagan Culture Because It Marks The Point Between The Autumn Equinox And The Winter Solstice.
It's Important To Also Note That Sauin Was/Is Also Acknowledged And Celebrated In Scotland, The Isle Of Man And The Brittonic Cultures, Comprising Of The Cornish, In Wales And In Brittany - France (Breton).
The Focus Of Sauin Is Where The Lines Between This World And The 'Otherworld' Blur, Making Communication Or Contact With The Spirits Possible. And So Offerings Were Made To The Spirits To Placate Them. This Was Believed To Ensure Them And Their Livestock A Safe Passage Through Winter.
The Spirits Of Family And Community In The Otherworld, Were Thought To Visit, And So A Place Was Set For Them At The Table. This Is The Purpose Of The Re-Enactment Of People/Children Going From Door To Door 'Trick Or Treating.' Although Originally, Pagan People Would Recite Verses In Exchange For Sustenance.
It Is Interesting To Observe The Powerful Emotions Stirred When The Word "Pagan" Is Uttered Amongst Christians. Images Of Babies Being Offered On Alters Seems To Be The Enduring Image And Notion Of What Pagans Practice. Yet Halloween Is Anticipated With Much Excitement And Celebrated By The Christian World. Who Introduce Their Children To Halloween, Pumpkins, Treats And Trick Or Treating With Fervour. Do They Not Know? Or….Do They Not Want To Know?
This Is The Reason For Introducing Practices To Us During Our Infancy And Childhood.
Whatever Your Perspective - Stay Warm, And Love, Love, Love. Always Love.
