The bathroom pipes ain't burstin', and we got plenty of pens,
The machines are nicely updated, and the day, it begins
But when the sun goes down, and Election Night's in sight,
The ghosts of broken systems come to haunt us at night.

Those pipes, they start a-leakin', and the pens, they disappear,
The machines start actin' crazy, and the voters start to jeer,

By morning light, we're weary, the ballots are back in line,

Election Night is over now, until another day.

The talkin' heads on TV, they don't know what we've seen,
They just report the numbers, don't fill the in-between,
The night time graphs, appear out of line, what happened to this vote?
Election Night's a struggle that this old heart still knows.
