A Pentagon staffer suspected of leaking US intelligence on Israel’s plans to attack Iran has reportedly been transferred to a new role, as per a report. The move comes after the Iranian-origin staffer faced scrutiny due to her alleged role in the recent leak of ‘classified US intelligence documents.’
Ariane Tabatabai, the Iranian American academic reported as a suspect, will now ‘oversee force education and training’ within Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin's office.
In her new position, she will have "significantly less access to intelligence and covert military programmes," according to a report by The Free Press. This is said to be a shift from her previous role which generally entails more direct access to classified operational details.
Earlier, Tabatabai worked as the Bureau Chief to US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin's aide for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, or SO/LIC. The job reportedly provided Tabatabai unique access to the highest levels of classified intelligence as well as knowledge of virtually all US special military operations.
On Oct. 25, the Pentagon notified US Congress that Tabatabai was “transitioning to her new office” in troop education and training, reported the Free Press. Ariane Tabatabai's name was featured in several media reports suspecting her of being behind the recent leak, prompting the Pentagon to launch a probe.
