Rey Movie CANCELLED? Disney Star Wars is DEAD!

Star Wars is getting ready to return to theatres for the first time since Rise of Skywalker in 2019. The Mandalorian and Grogu just finished principle photography ahead of its May 2026 release date, but the follow up feature is very much in the air.

James Mangold has been earmarked to direct a Dawn of the Jedi movie, exploring the origin of the mystical order. But nothing is concrete as to a filming date and now there is news of the Rey movie with Daisy Ridley and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy having lost its screenwriter. Steven Knight is opening a studio in Los Angeles and focusing on his Peaky Blinder project, so all signs point to the continuation of the story for the sequel trilogy protagonist being put on ice.

No one prioritizing Star Wars in Hollywood is a damning indictment of Lucasfilm leadership. Kathleen Kennedy has molded the greatest cinematic franchise in history into a massive after thought. How much money the Mando movie makes is going to be a wakeup call, which is more reason to either delay or outright cancel the Rey film. They don't want to see how far they have fallen or make the public aware of how irrelevant the once great Sci-Fi brand has become.
