The Rebellious Son
(Part 3 – Rebellion Described and its Undesirability)
Text: 1Sam 8:7

Objective: that the brethren may not be rebellious and help those that in that path to turn to the legitimate God-given authorities, learn to submit, and serve well.

Intro:
Define – Rebellion, undesirable

Characteristics of Rebellion/Rebellious:
I. They Lack Faith – De 9:23-24
II. It is a Great wickedness that cause any to lose blessings - 1Sam 15:22-23
III. Stems from forgetting of the Lords goodness/greatness - Ne. 9:16-17
1. (being inconsiderate)
IV. Punished by Isolation - Ps. 68:6
V. Avoids God to Fulfil Sinful Desire - Isa. 30:1
VI. Pitiful- without good counsel - Isa.65:2
VII. Lose Good Standing with the Lord and His servants - Je. 5:5
VIII. Burden to others - Eze 2:3
IX. Insensitive, Unaware of their situation, Helpless - Eze 12:2
X. Provokes – invites severe punishment/wrath - Ne. 9:26, Isa. 1:5
XI. Full of Falsehood, Lies, Insincerity - Isa 59:13, Ho 7:14

Finally: how to deal with it – just follow the Lord- we can expect blessing from Him and punishment to the rebels. Don’t take it personally…
1Sam 8:7
“And the LORD said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.”

Message/conclusion:

Let us not be rebellious and help those that in that path to turn to the legitimate God-given authorities, learn to submit, and serve well.
