It’s official: IGN handed Dragon Age: The Veilguard a glowing 9/10, but let’s be real—this score raises more red flags than it buries. The non-binary reviewer seemed to care more about the game’s woke inclusivity options than about the actual gameplay, and the result is yet another critic score that leaves fans questioning IGN’s credibility. A game’s high score on IGN doesn’t magically erase its problems or invalidate the opinions of fans who see it for what it is.

YouTuber Neon Knight, who played Veilguard extensively, pulled back the curtain to reveal a disappointing reality. He described the game as a “thin coat of paint” barely hiding the flaws of a product more focused on mainstream appeal than staying true to its Dragon Age roots. The gameplay imitates God of War 2018 to an almost embarrassing degree, with roughly 85% of the combat and exploration cloned from it, creating a flashy but hollow experience that betrays Dragon Age’s deep RPG legacy.

IGN’s review conveniently sidesteps these core issues, choosing instead to celebrate inclusivity, which, while important, does not make up for a lackluster game. Fans aren’t fooled—Veilguard offers only three decision carry-overs from Inquisition, completely disregarding the weight of previous player choices, and trading depth for mass appeal.

This is why relying on critic scores—especially from IGN—can’t replace real fan feedback. Just because Veilguard got a high score doesn’t mean it’s a good game, and fans are right to question both the game’s quality and the platform hyping it up.
