Meet Gabby Franco – Olympian, Competitive Shooter, and Firearms Advocate Gabby
Born María Gabriela Franco, Franco is a renowned Venezuelan sport shooter with a career spanning over 25 years. She started her shooting journey at the young age of 11, competing in air pistol and sport pistol.
Her international debut came at the 1997 Bolivarian Games in Arequipa, Peru, where she earned a silver medal. This victory paved the way for her to compete at the 1997 South American Olympic Shooting Tournament in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 1998, Gabby solidified her reputation as a top-tier shooter by winning another silver medal at the Central American Games in Maracaibo, Venezuela.
Her success continued in 1999 when she became the first Venezuelan female shooter to earn an Olympic spot after securing a silver medal at the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg, Canada. At the 2000 Sydney Olympics, Gabby competed in the women’s 25-meter and 10-meter air pistols, marking a significant milestone in her career. After an incredible run, Gabby retired in 2002.
She ended her time on the international stage with a triumphant performance at the South American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she claimed three gold medals—one individual in air pistol and two team medals in air and sport pistol. Today, Gabby Franco is a vital part of the Walther Performance Division.
She is not only an Olympian but also a sought-after firearms instructor, competitive shooter, author, and advocate for the Second Amendment. Her extensive experience in the Olympics, self-defense, and practical shooting has empowered thousands across the United States and Puerto Rico through live and virtual training.
Gabby’s dedication to shooting sports, relentless pursuit of excellence, and positive attitude continue to inspire many in the shooting community. Beyond her accolades, Gabby is a student, mother, and wife, balancing her personal life with her passion for education and advocacy for the right to bear arms.
