He Stopped Loving Her Today, from the album “I Am What I Am” (1980), has been named in several polls as the best country song of all time. The song won the award for best country song of 1980.
The week after Jones' death, in 2013, the song re-entered the Hot Country Songs chart, in 21st position. By November 13, 2013, the single had sold 521,000 copies in the United States and, since 2008, has been preserved by the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry.
The song was ranked 142nd in Rolling Stone's 500 greatest songs of all time in 2021.
