One Piece season 2 is happening, and if the Netflix show runs for long enough, its viewers will have an experience that not even the anime could offer. The release of a successful and well-received live-action adaptation was one of the few things One Piece had yet to accomplish. One of the most popular manga and anime series of all time, One Piece started in 1997 and continues to find new audiences all over the world to this day. One Piece’s ever-growing success is particularly impressive given the length of the story – 1128 manga chapters and counting.

When Netflix announced it was developing a live-action One Piece show, those familiar with the source material were rightfully cautious about the project. Hollywood’s track of live-action anime adaptations was not exciting, not to mention how the fantastical world of One Piece would be incredibly difficult to portray in live-action. However, not only was One Piece season 1 surprisingly faithful to the manga, but it was a great show on its own even if you had never watched the anime. One Piece is moving forward with season 2, but covering the whole story will take a long time.
