Even in the wilderness, the people are organized and structured, each with their individual roles and tasks, demonstrating how order and unity under GOD’s leadership can result in a well-structured community ready to face any challenges ahead.
The east side is the natural place to begin because that is the side in which the opening into the tabernacle was placed, and thus the way into the presence of GOD.
Notice that GOD is detailed, very detailed. Obeying HIM requires knowing the details. And of course, following the details.
The Tabernacle was made at Mount Sinai the year after the Exodus. It continued until the reign of King Solomon nearly five hundred years later. When the Temple was completed.
The Tabernacle had two compartments, the Holy and the Holy of Holies. Here the central worship of Israel was conducted, the solemn ceremonies of sacrifice and cleansing, including the Day of Atonement which cleansed Israel from sin for the time being. Only the High Priest could enter the place where the presence of the LORD was, and only once a year on the day.
