Orange County Deputies Shot a Man After He Rushed at Them With a Knife

On September 21, 2024, at about 4:30 a.m., our communications center received a 911 call from a woman who said her boyfriend – a man in his 40s - had a knife and was going to kill himself. Deputies arrived at the InTown Suites at 1951 Central Florida Parkway moments later and encountered the man, who had a knife.

The man went back into his room, and our deputies were in the parking lot attempting to get him to come out without the knife so they could get him the help he needed. After about 20 minutes, the man came out, holding the knife above his head, and running toward our deputies, who fired their service weapons, striking the man.

Deputies immediately rendered aid until the fire department arrived on scene and transported the man to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
