The Tupolev Tu-95MS is a long-range, strategic missile carrier used by the Russian Aerospace Forces. Known by its NATO designation, "Bear," this iconic aircraft is one of the few propeller-driven bombers still in operation, thanks to its unique capabilities.

The Tu-95MS serves as a strategic bomber and missile carrier, primarily tasked with carrying out long-range nuclear and conventional strike missions.

The aircraft is equipped to carry Kh-55 or Kh- one hundred and one and or one hundred and two, cruise missiles, which are capable of delivering either conventional or nuclear warheads. It can carry up to 16 missiles on external and internal rotary launchers.

With a maximum range of about 15,000 kilometers (9,300 miles) without refueling, the Tu-95MS can conduct intercontinental missions, which is a core aspect of Russia’s nuclear triad.

Despite being a turboprop aircraft, it can reach speeds up to 830 kilometers per hour or 515 miles per hour, providing a balance of endurance and speed for long-range missions.

The Tu-95MS has significant loiter time due to its fuel-efficient turboprop engines, allowing it to patrol large areas or wait for mission execution for extended periods.

It is equipped with defensive systems, including electronic countermeasures and tail guns to protect against enemy fighters.

Besides its primary role in strategic nuclear deterrence, the Tu-95MS has been deployed in conventional bombing campaigns, such as in Syria, launching cruise missile strikes on ground targets.

The Tu-95MS is notable for its longevity, versatility, and continued role as a key element of Russia's airborne nuclear deterrent.
