It is not clear whether Post owner Jeff Bezos or Publisher/CEO Will Lewis made the call. Shipley said the paper wanted to give readers an "independent" space in which to decide or whom to vote on their own.

The Washington Post has now declined to endorse a candidate for President, this hasn’t happened since the 1980’s. This comes after the LA times declined to endorse a candidate for President. Kamala Harris is seriously the worst Democrat candidate in the history of the party. It appears to boil down to something quite simple: The Post's leadership didn't feel like jumping aboard what they seem to sense is a ship that's sinking fast.
