Gangs in Haiti open fire and hit a UN helicopter midair as violence surges

Gangs in Haiti opened fire on a U.N. helicopter in Port-au-Prince, forcing an emergency landing with no injuries reported.

The attack is part of escalating violence in the capital, where the gang coalition Viv Ansanm has recently displaced over 10,000 people.

This week’s violence included an assault on the coastal town of Arcahaie, where 50 suspected gang members were killed, including a group who drowned while transporting ammunition, the Associated Press has reported.
