Elizabeth Jane Hurley (born 10 June 1965) is an English actress and model. Her best-known film roles are Vanessa Kensington in Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery (1997) and as the Devil in Bedazzled (2000).[1] Hurley's television roles include the E! original series The Royals (2015–2018) and Morgan le Fay in Runaways (2019), based on the Marvel Comics series. She portrayed Diana Payne on the fifth season of The CW's original series Gossip Girl (2011).

Hurley's first role in a big budget film was in Passenger 57 (1992). In 1994, Hurley accompanied Hugh Grant to the London premiere of his film Four Weddings and a Funeral,[2] in a plunging black Versace dress held together with gold safety pins, which gained her instant media attention.[3][4]

Hurley has been associated with the cosmetics company Estée Lauder since the company gave Hurley her first modelling job at the age of 29.[5] They have featured her as a representative and model for their products, especially perfumes such as Sensuous, Intuition, and Pleasures, since 1995.[6] Hurley owns a beachwear line.[7]

Early life
Elizabeth Hurley was born on 10 June 1965 in Basingstoke, Hampshire, as the younger daughter of Angela Mary (née Titt) and Roy Leonard Hurley.[8] Her father was a major in the Royal Army Educational Corps;[9][10] her mother was a teacher at Kempshott Junior School.[8] She has an older sister, Kate, and a younger brother, Michael.[11]

Hurley attended Harriet Costello School,[12] a mixed secondary in Basingstoke, and, while in her teens, she became involved with punk fashion, dyeing her hair pink and piercing her nose.[1] "When I was 16 – this was about 1981, 1982 – the thing to be in Basingstoke, the suburb I grew up in, was punk," she explained.[13] She reportedly associated with New Age travellers in her youth.[14] Aspiring to be a dancer as a young girl, she enrolled in ballet classes. Hurley continued in the sixth form and took A-levels in English, Sociology and Psychology[15] in 1983 before studying dance and theatre at the London Studio Centre.[16]

Career
Film
Hurley made her first film appearance in Aria (1987).[8] She subsequently appeared in the movies Passenger 57, EDtv, Bedazzled, Serving Sara and Dangerous Ground. In 1997, she co-starred with Mike Myers in the spy spoof Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery.[1]

When Hugh Grant founded and became the director of Simian Films in 1994, Hurley was credited as one of the producers for the company's two Grant vehicles, Extreme Measures (1996) and Mickey Blue Eyes (1999).[17] In 2000, she was publicly criticised for breaking a five-month acting strike to film an Estée Lauder advertisement, for which she was fined $100,000 (£70,000 in 2000) by the Screen Actors Guild and labelled "Elizabeth Scably" by protestors.[18][19]

In 2024. Hurley acted in and produced Strictly Confidential, which was written and directed by her son Damian.

Television

In 1988, Hurley appeared briefly in a speaking part as a schoolgirl in "Last Seen Wearing", an episode of the detective series Inspector Morse, which was partly filmed at Reading Blue Coat School,[20] Sonning, Berkshire. In the same year she played Rosie Japhet in an episode of Rumpole of the Bailey ("Rumpole and the Barrow Boy"). In late 1988, Hurley portrayed the title character in a four-part television drama, Christabel. After appearing in John Cleese's The Human Face (2001), she hosted the inaugural series of the British reality show Project Catwalk on Sky 1 in 2006. Hurley was criticised as a presenter by Marcelle D'Argy Smith, a former editor of Cosmopolitan magazine, who said: "Liz Hurley has no fashion experience whatsoever. She wore a dress and has appeared at premieres." GQ's Dylan Jones defended her as someone "immersed in the fashion world as a celebrity."[21] She was dropped after one series because her bosses reportedly believed she was too wooden.[22]

In 2011, Hurley filmed a guest star role in the series pilot of NBC's Wonder Woman as the villain Veronica Cale.[23] The network decided not to pick up the series. In July 2011, it was announced that Hurley would join the fifth season of Gossip Girl for a multi-episode arc. Her character, Diana Payne, was described by the series' executive producers as "a sexy, smart, self-made media mogul and all-around force to be reckoned with", whose "entrance on the Upper East Side will change the lives of all our characters—including, and especially, Gossip Girl herself."[24] In September 2013, she was cast in one of E!'s first two scripted pilots, The Royals,[25] which was picked up in March 2014 and aired in 2015.[26] The drama series, revolving around a fictional British Royal Family and set in modern London, stars Hurley as the matriarch Queen Helena.[26][27] Hurley played Marvel Comics villain Morgan le Fay in the final season of the Hulu show Runaways, released in 2019.[28] In 2021, Hurley appeared as a guest judge in the second series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK.[29]

Fashion

In 1995, Hurley was introduced as an Estée Lauder spokesmodel.[5][1] She later recounted, "I was far from an ingénue, having had my first modelling job at 29."[5] Hurley has featured in ads for Lauder's 'Pleasures', 'Beautiful', 'Dazzling', 'Tuscany per Donna', and 'Sensuous' fragrances as well as participated in campaigns for the company's other cosmetics.[30] She was replaced as the face of Estée Lauder by Carolyn Murphy in 2001. She continues to work with the company non-exclusively, signing a contract for the 16th year with Lauder in 2010.[6] In 2005, she modelled for Saloni, Liverpool Department Stores of Mexico, and Lancel. She was part of the seasonal advertising campaigns for Jordache, Shiatzy Chen, Got Milk?, Patrick Cox, MQ Clothiers of Sweden, and Lancel in 2006[31][32] and Monsoon in 2007.[33] In 2008, Hurley was unveiled as the seasonal campaign face for Blackglama mink. Hurley has appeared three times on the cover of British Vogue.[34] She is signed to TESS Management in London.[35]

In April 2005, Elizabeth Hurley Beach, her beachwear line that she models every summer, was launched at Harrods in the UK.[7] It debuted later that year in select Saks Fifth Avenue stores in the United States and other European countries.[36][37] In May 2008, Hurley designed and modelled a capsule collection of 12 swimsuits for the Spanish clothing brand Mango.[38]

Charity
Hurley has been active in Estée Lauder's breast cancer awareness campaign, as part of which the company created an "Elizabeth Pink" lipstick whose sales benefit the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.[39] Hurley's grandmother died of breast cancer.[40]

Hurley supported The Prince's Trust by co-presenting the 2003 Fashion Rocks event in its aid[41] and helping launch the Get Into Cooking youth initiative in 2004.[42] She has helped raise funds for End Hunger Network,[43] ARK children's charity,[44] and the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital & Research Centre.[45]

She is a patron of the Elton John AIDS Foundation.[46] She is a patron of the City Veterans Network, a charity based in the City of London that links former members of the Armed Forces to opportunities for rehabilitation and employment.[47]

Political views
In June 2016, Hurley expressed her support for the United Kingdom leaving the European Union and urged the public to vote in the 2016 European Union membership referendum.[48]

Personal life

Hurley with her then-husband Arun Nayar at the Ampney Crucis Village Fete in 2008
Hurley was a relatively unknown actress when she met Hugh Grant in 1987 while working on a Spanish production called Remando Al Viento. In the 1990s, Hurley became known mostly as Grant's girlfriend.[49]

In 1994, as Grant became the focus of international media attention due to the success of his film Four Weddings and a Funeral,[2] Hurley accompanied him to the film's London premiere in a black Versace dress, which gained her instant media attention.[3][4]

While dating Hurley, Grant gained notoriety for soliciting the services of a sex worker in 1995. Hurley stood by Grant and accompanied him to the premiere of his film Nine Months.[1] After thirteen years together, Hurley and Grant announced an "amicable" split in May 2000.[49][50][51]

On 4 April 2002, Hurley gave birth to a son, Damian Charles Hurley.[52] The baby's father, American businessman Steve Bing, denied paternity by claiming that he and Hurley had a brief, non-exclusive relationship in 2001. A DNA test established Bing as Damian's father.[53][54] Grant is one of Damian's godfathers.[55] Hurley is godmother to Patsy Kensit's and Liam Gallagher's son Lennon and two of David and Victoria Beckham's sons Brooklyn and Romeo.[56]

In late 2002, Hurley began dating Indian businessperson Arun Nayar.[57] They married in 2007. Hurley lived on a 400-acre (1.6 km2) organic farm in Barnsley, Gloucestershire, with her son and husband.[58]

In December 2010, Hurley announced that she and Nayar had separated several months earlier.[59] Hurley filed for divorce on 2 April 2011, citing Nayar's "unreasonable behaviour" as the cause,[60] grounds for divorce under English law. The divorce was granted on 15 June 2011.[61]

Hurley with then-fiancé Shane Warne in 2012
In late 2011, three months after her divorce, Hurley became engaged to Shane Warne, a former Australian cricketer.[62] In 2012, Hurley and Warne bought the Grade II–listed mansion Donnington Hall, near Ledbury, Herefordshire, as their main home.[63] In December 2013, Hello magazine reported that the couple had decided to split.[64] Warne died on 4 March 2022. Hurley paid tribute to her ex-fiancé.[65]

In March 2018, her nephew Miles Hurley was stabbed repeatedly in the back by a group of men in Wandsworth, south London.[66]

Ex Austin Powers girl Elizabeth Hurley is up against a fairytale villain in “Piper,” a new horror movie inspired by the children’s story “The Pied Piper of Hamelin” by Robert Browning.

Directing the movie is Anthony Waller. You may recognize that name if you have watched An American Werewolf in Paris (1997), the sequel to the beloved American Werewolf in London (1982). The former often gets roasted by fans of the latter for its campiness and divisiveness, but it is still a relatively good time.

Hurley did a handful of Christmas movies in 2022 with this horror film sandwiched between them. Piper is set to have its world premiere screening at FrightFest in the U.K. on August 27.

It hasn’t been determined as to when it will make its American debut, most likely because international distribution execs need to see it first in order to start bidding on it.

It should be an easy grab since the U.S. actors and writers strike isn’t applicable in the U.K. and streamers have been clamoring for foreign movies as a work-around to fill their rosters, while still standing in solidarity. But the question remains: Is it any good?

Let us know what you think.

Liz and her daughter Amy move to Hamelin where a dark secret in Liz’s past is uncovered by the restless spirit of the Pied Piper, who seeks out those who have gotten away with a crime, and punishes them by taking away their children.

ListsYou Need to Watch These Free Horror Movies on TubiPublished 2 hours ago on October 24, 2024By Cameron McFarland
Tubi has made a name for itself as the best free streaming service around. While the platform has a great selection of films, it also has a surprisingly good selection of lesser-known horror flicks. After sifting through the myriads of titles, these are the five we believe you need to watch this spooky season.

Martyrs (2008)
Martyrs, Tubi
Tubi offers a wide selection of films, but few are as bleak as this French extremism flick. Martyrs is the type of film that leaves a black void in your soul long after the credits roll. What starts off as a slow burn horror soon escalates into a blood drenched nightmare.

Martyrs is a religious horror at heart that asks what is beyond the veil? Unfortunately, getting the answer to this question requires a lot of torture. Now, the film was remade for American audiences in 2015, but the French version will always reign supreme.

Martyrs
Clown (2016)
Clown, Tubi
One of the more unique films on Tubi, Clown offers a different take on the demonic clown angle. The film follows a middle-aged man who dresses up as a clown for a birthday party. However, he soon finds that he cannot take the costume off.

The film then begins building its own twisted mythos on the evil clown lore. This is a wild ride that is both terrifying and heartbreaking. If you are looking for a classic creature feature, go watch Clown on Tubi.

Clown
Incident in a Ghostland (2019)
Incident in a Ghostland,, tubi
Tubi features no shortage of off-the-wall horror flick but Incident in a Ghostland is a truly rare gem. In an effort to not spoil the plot, let’s just say that Incident in a Ghostland is unlike any other film on this list.

It features an incredible amount of twists and turns that will leave you guessing throughout its runtime. The film culminates in a heart breaking conclusion that shouldn’t be missed. If you are looking for something sadder this Halloween season, go watch Incident in a Ghostland on Tubi.

Incident in a Ghostland
Let Us Pray (2015)
Let us Pray
While religious horror films are a dime a dozen, Tubi has one of the best hidden gems around. Set in an Irish jail, Let Us Pray shows us what happens when the devil comes to collect his due.

The film is both subtle and explosive in its approach, resulting in one of the best religious films to come out of the region. If you are looking for some a bit more fast-paced this Halloween, go watch Let Us Pray on Tubi.

Slay (2024)
Slay
Ok, we have covered all of the dreadful and action-packed films Tubi has to offer but what if you are looking for something a bit more fun and campy? What if I told you that there exists a film that is basically From Dusk Till Dawn but with drag queens?

Slay follows a group of drag queens who wind up in a small-town venue by accident. While they debate performing for this less-than-enthusiastic audience, the bar is attacked by vampires. Slay is fun, campy, and should be on everyone’s Halloween watch list this year.

MoviesTrailer Premiere: ‘Watch Them Come Blood’ Promises a Gritty and Gory Time!Published 14 hours ago on October 23, 2024By Jacob Davison
Road trips have a tendency to go awry. That’s just a fact of travel and vacations as a whole. Cars can break down. Hotels can be overbooked. Theme parks close early. And you and your friends can end up in some life or death situations. This is the premise of the stylishly tinged Watch Them Come Blood.

The story follows a cadre of friends as they embark on on what should be an otherwise uneventful roadtrip together making memories and seeing sights. Only to stumble upon a secretive and secluded brothel where the services they offer are beyond anything they could imagine. Watch the trailer below to get a feel for Watch Them Come Blood which looks like it’s going to live up to the bloody title!

Watch them Come Blood is directed and co-written by Mike Cuenca and co-written and produced Joaquin Dominguez. The movie will be having its theatrical premiere through The American Cinematheque Cinematic Void series on Tuesday October 29th, 2024 at the Los Feliz 3 theater.

ListsScientific Study Reveals The Scariest Movie Ever & the Scariest of 2024Published 19 hours ago on October 23, 2024By Timothy Rawles
We aren’t sure whether to trust a British company whose primary service is to save its members money on household items, but we will go with it. If anything, it’s rage bait, and if so we are sorry-ish. But it can’t be that bad, the word “science” is in the title.

Science of Scare is an annual experiment that measures how a horror movie affects the viewer’s physical response. It is conducted by Money Super Market, a British consumer group that shows horror movies to people every year and records their heart rates. Those results are then calculated and ranked. Dread Central reported on this and revealed that Oddity was the scariest movie of 2024.

The company has been doing this project since 2020.

Here is their full list of 2024’s scariest films:

Science of Scare explains their process: “The Scare Score system, which combines both heart rate (measured in beats per minute BPM), and heart rate variance (measured in milliseconds, or m/s), returns for 2024.

With heart rate (BPM), the higher the number, the faster the movie got our audiences’ blood pumping, an indicator of excitement and fear as part of your fight or flight instinct.”

Scariest of all Time:
If you don’t agree with their choice of 2024 then you might be surprised at their “all-time” list. The number one movie that got viewers’ hearts racing is Scott Derrickson’s 2012 movie Sinister starring Ethan Hawke.

“Sinister had originally been crowned the scariest of all time in our initial 2020 study, before losing the top spot to Host in 2021. However, it was Sinister’s ability to give our viewers that sinking feeling that edged it back into first place.”

You read that right, Host, the pandemic screen life chiller was once the number one scariest movie among testing group. It definitely belongs on the list somewhere, but scariest?

Tell us what you think of the list and whether you agree with it or not.

Elizabeth Hurley's son is following in her footsteps.

The Gossip Girl actress has one child, Damian Hurley, with businessman Steve Bing. He was born in 2002 and has started to act and model just like his mother, even joining her on set for season 3 of The Royals.

Beyond acting, rumors swirled in 2021 around a potential reality show for the mother-son duo. However, Elizabeth quickly shut down the gossip on Instagram.

"Hear it from the horse's mouth, my son @damianhurley1 and I are most definitely NOT planning to shoot a 'Waltons- style reality TV show' at home," she wrote. "I mean!! Whoever the 'friend' (or bored journalist) is, who's leaking these fictional tidbits, you are ridiculous."

'Gossip Girl' Cast: Where Are They Now?
Elizabeth and Damian remain active on social media, frequently giving fans and followers a glimpse into their family life.

Despite their lives in the spotlight, Elizabeth told PEOPLE in 2017 that while she would "encourage anything he wants to do," she still wanted Damian to "study hard at school" and focus on being experienced in more than just Hollywood.

Here's everything to know about Elizabeth Hurley’s son, Damian Hurley.

He was born in April 2002

Two years after ending her 13-year relationship with actor Hugh Grant, Elizabeth gave birth to her son, Damian Charles Hurley.

His father is businessman Steve Bing, whom Elizabeth dated for 18 months.

His godfather is Hugh Grant

Elizabeth met Grant in 1987, and they dated for 13 years before splitting in 2000. When Damian was born in 2002, Elizabeth asked Grant to be his godfather.

In June 2021, Elizabeth appeared on the PEOPLE in the '90s podcast where she looked back on her relationship with Grant.

"We went through so much together, but I've been thinking, one of the most important things to keep good relations with your exes is to have a lot of respect for their current life," Elizabeth said.

"We haven't been romantically involved for 20 years even though we have such a strong friendship. But we're always very aware that there are other people in our lives," she continued. "There's partners, there's children ... You have to move with the times and be very respectful of the present, which we are."

He grew up in England and Australia

Damian was raised in Gloucestershire with his mother and businessman Arun Nayar, who was Elizabeth's husband from 2007 to 2011.

When the Bedazzled actress got engaged to Australian cricket player Shane Warne in 2011, the family moved to Australia, where they lived part-time.

Damian seems just as comfortable in front of the camera as his famous mother. Before he started his modeling career, Damian was a budding actor, starring alongside his mother in The Royals.

He played Prince Hansel Von Liechtenstein in season 3 of the series and shared scenes with his mother, who called the experience "just fantastic."

"He’s been such a supporter of the show and indeed of me for his whole life and to have him actually be in costume, mic-ed up, doing his lines, I was proud," she told PEOPLE in 2017.

In 2019, Damian landed his first major modeling gig for the beauty brand Pat McGrath Labs. Damian’s bone structure, bright blue eyes and confidence in front of the camera were put on full display in the campaign video — and were reminiscent of his famous mom, who became an Estée Lauder spokeswoman in 1995.

Damian later signed with a famous agency. "I'm incredibly excited to be joining IMG Models," Damian told WWD in 2020. "To become part of such a wonderful family is truly fantastic. I can't wait to see what the future brings."

Elizabeth is encouraging of his studies

In 2017, Elizabeth told PEOPLE that she wanted her son to stick to his studies and focus on being a well-rounded person.

"I always say, you don't want to be a bore at dinner. You have to know geography, you need to know history," Elizabeth said. "And then of course, if he wants to be — and if he were talented enough and lucky enough to be a movie star, how nice that would be."

She added, "But to me that's the icing on the cake after you [become] a fully-rounded person.”

His father died in 2020

In June 2020, Bing was found dead at the base of an apartment building in Century City, California.

In a heartfelt tribute to him on Instagram, Elizabeth shared a gallery of photos of herself smiling alongside Damian's father.

"I am saddened beyond belief that my ex Steve is no longer with us. It is a terrible end," the actress wrote. "Our time together was very happy and I’m posting these pictures because although we went through some tough times, it’s the good, wonderful memories of a sweet, kind man that matter."

"In the past year we had become close again," Elizabeth continued. "We last spoke on our son’s 18th birthday. This is devastating news and I thank everyone for their lovely messages."

Damian also shared about the loss of his father on Instagram.

"Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone that has reached out following the devastating news," he wrote. "This is a very strange and confusing time and I’m immensely grateful to be surrounded by my phenomenal family and friends."

He was very close with his late stepfather

In 2011, when Damian was 9 years old, Elizabeth got engaged to Warne. The couple parted ways in 2013 but remained close for many years. In March 2022, Warne died suddenly from a heart attack at the age of 52.

“I feel like the sun has gone behind a cloud forever. RIP my beloved Lionheart," the Austin Powers star captioned her tribute post.

Damian also expressed his devastation over Warne's death on Instagram.

"I'm still trying to wrap my head around this," Damian wrote in his caption alongside a carousel of photos of himself with Warne. "SW was a father figure to me for most of my formative years and was truly one the best men I've ever known. My heart is broken."

He and his mother have attended events together

In June 2022, the mother-son duo celebrated Elizabeth's 57th birthday in coordinating Versace looks. Earlier, in October 2021, the pair attended a joint Fendi-Versace fashion show that was an exciting milestone for Damian.

"I haven't been to a fashion show for a good few years, I guess nobody has really," Elizabeth told PEOPLE at the time. "He had never been to one. So I think for us to go to one together ... was really great."

His mom is starring in his first film
Damian and his mom are partnering up for his directorial debut, a thriller titled Strictly Confidential, premiering in theaters on April 5, 2024. Elizabeth plays a key role in the movie, which is about a woman who goes back to the Caribbean, where her best friend died, to help find out what may have led to her mysterious death.

As Damian told PEOPLE in February 2024, Elizabeth promised years ago that she'd participate in his first movie, and she kept her word.

"During the making of my first-ever short film back in 2010 when I was 8, my mother promised me she’d be in my first feature. True to her word, the minute Strictly Confidential was green-lit, my mother dropped everything and raced out to the Caribbean to help," he said.

Damian added, "We only had 18 days to shoot the whole film, so our twin-like telepathy was invaluable throughout."

In April 2024, Elizabeth told PEOPLE that she was aware that some people had been "making a lot of fuss" about a sex scene that was teased in the trailer for Strictly Confidential.

“I think there's a lot of factors making it a particularly interesting scene for people," she said, noting that those factors include her son writing and directing the scene.

She went on to say that while the movie itself is “quite out there and daring, there actually isn’t any nudity. Nobody’s exploited at all. We all felt comfortable doing it.”
