Three people were killed and fourteen injured on Wednesday, October 23, in an attack targeting the headquarters of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS), near Ankara, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on X. "Two terrorists have been neutralized," he added, without specifying whether they had been arrested or killed, or if there were other attackers. "A terrorist attack was carried out against the TUSAS facilities in Ankara. Unfortunately, we had martyrs and injured in this attack," the minister had earlier stated on X. The term "martyr" is generally used to announce the death of soldiers. There was an explosion followed by gunfire, local media reported. According to initial images broadcast by the private television channel NTV, the explosion, which occurred around 4 p.m. (local time, 3 p.m. Paris time), released thick white smoke in front of the site’s entrance, located about 40 kilometers from the capital. A major Defense and Aerospace Industry Fair is being held this week in Istanbul, which notably saw the visit of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister. The Turkish defense sector, which includes the famous Bayraktar drones, accounted for nearly 80% of the country's export revenues and $10.2 billion for the year 2023.
