European Parliament debates rules to return irregular migrants - October 23, 2024

MEPs debate potential changes to EU legislation on the return of migrants with no right to stay in Europe. They are also likely to stress the importance of cooperation with non-EU countries, including on readmitting their own nationals.
The debate comes as the EU and its member states prepare to apply the Pact on Migration and Asylum.
The recently announced plan by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to allow the right to request asylum to be temporarily suspended in certain cases is also expected to be raised, as well as the Italian programme to ship asylum applicants rescued at sea to centres in Albania while they await a decision on their requests will also be debated.
