Italy's national anthem is "Il Canto degli Italiani" (The Song of the Italians), also known as "Fratelli d'Italia" (Brothers of Italy). It was written in 1847 by the young poet Goffredo Mameli, with music composed by Michele Novaro. The anthem was created during Italy’s Risorgimento, the movement for the country’s unification and independence from foreign rule.

The lyrics of "Fratelli d'Italia" reflect the patriotic spirit and desire for freedom that fueled the Risorgimento. It calls for unity among Italians to fight for liberty and against oppression. Although it became popular during the unification process, the anthem was officially adopted as Italy’s national anthem only in 1946, after the country became a republic following World War II.

It is often performed at national events, sports competitions, and other occasions of national pride, symbolizing Italy's unity and struggle for independence.
