Purification
◦ Purity
▪ 1 John 3:3 → We should strive to be pure and purify ourselves just as Jesus Christ is
pure.
▪ Titus 1:15-16 → God is pure, but those who are disobedient, defiled, and or unbelieving
concerning Jesus Christ is nothing pure.
◦ The Problem with Sin
▪ James 1:15, 1 Corinthians 15:56, Romans 6:23 → The wages of sin is death.

Romans 6:11-12 → So long as we are sinning without repentance, we are dead to
Christ and alive in our sins.
•
If we are willfully sinning, there is no sacrifice for our sins. → Hebrews 10:26-31
▪ We can do much but not reap much in return due to sin. → Proverbs 22:8, Haggai 1:6-7
•
If our heart is evil and we are sinning without repentance, the Lord is set against us
because God is against those who do evil. → Zephaniah 1:17, 1 Peter 3:12
◦ Zephaniah 2:3 → We are told to seek righteousness and meekness that we may
hidden from the Lord’s anger.
▪ Haggai 2:14, Micah 6:6-8, Proverbs 21:27, Isaiah 1:11-15, 1 Samuel 15:22, Proverbs
21:3 → Our works and sacrifices are worthless before the Lord if we remain in
uncleanness and sin.
▪ Zephaniah 1:6, Zephaniah 3:2, Micah 5:15 → If we turn our backs on the Lord in our
sin, He will also destroy us in His judgements.

Proverbs 14:34, Zephaniah 2:15, Zephaniah 3:4-6 → Sin causes God to judge and
destroy unrepentant peoples and cities.
▪ Micah 3:8-12, Matthew 7:6 → As long as we sin, God is against us, and it is foolish to
think that evil will not come upon us just because we honor God with our lips.

Another issue is when people negotiate and or compromise with their sins, in effect
rationalizing them, causing them not to repent while pretending to serve God which
is another form of vanity. → Proverbs 21:27
•
Despite everyone falling short of the glory of God in sin, we can still find mercy and
grace for us and judgement from Jesus Christ against those who do evil against us,
through the justification we have through faith, repentance, and obedience to Jesus
Christ.→ Micah 7:8-9, Micah 7:18-19, Habakkuk 2:4, Proverbs 24:16, Romans
3:23, 2 Thessalonians 1:6-8, Romans 12:19, Romans 3:23, Galatians 3:11, Acts 3:19
◦ The Process of Purification (Sanctification)
▪ As we covered in the holiness Bible study,
•
“As we serve Jesus, we sin less, are sanctified by Him, and become more clean and
pure of sin. → Psalm 32:5, Isaiah 1:16, 1 John 1:9, Revelation 1:5”
▪ James 4:8 → We are told to cleanse our hands of sin and purify our hearts.
▪ 1 Thessalonians 4:3-4 → We are told to sanctify ourselves using our vessels in honor.
We are to abstain from all manner of sin.
▪ 1 Peter 1:22 → By obeying the truth, Jesus Christ, we purify ourselves through the Holy
Spirit and work towards a pure heart.
▪ John 15:3, John 17:17-19, Ephesians 5:26 → The Word of God sanctifies us.
▪ Hebrews 10:22, John 7:37-39 → The Holy Spirit, symbolized as water, washes and
cleans us.
▪ Titus 3:5 → In God’s mercy, we are washed from our sins and renewed in the Holy
Spirit.
▪ Through the blood sacrifice of Jesus Christ, we are sanctified and our sins are forgiven.
Without the shedding of the Lord Jesus Christ’s blood, there would be no sacrifice for
our sins. → Hebrews 9:14, Hebrews 9:22, Revelation 1:5, Leviticus 17:11, Matthew
26:28, Romans 5:9, 1 John 1:7
▪ Hebrews 2:11 → God is the one who sanctifies us.
