Islam is a monotheistic religion that originated in the 7th century in the Arabian Peninsula. It is based on the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad, who Muslims believe to be the last messenger of God (Allah in Arabic). The followers of Islam are called Muslims, and they believe in the same God worshiped in Judaism and Christianity.

Core Beliefs of Islam:
Tawhid (Oneness of God): Islam emphasizes the absolute oneness of God. There is no partner, offspring, or equivalent to Allah.

Prophethood: Muslims believe in a chain of prophets starting with Adam and including Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, with Muhammad being the final prophet.

Holy Book - The Qur'an: The Qur'an is considered the literal word of God as revealed to Muhammad. It serves as a guide for personal conduct, law, and faith.

Five Pillars of Islam:

Shahada (Faith): Declaration of faith, "There is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his Prophet."
Salat (Prayer): Muslims perform five daily prayers facing Mecca.
Zakat (Charity): Muslims are required to give a portion of their wealth to help those in need.
Sawm (Fasting): During the month of Ramadan, Muslims fast from dawn to dusk.
Hajj (Pilgrimage): Muslims who are physically and financially able are required to make the pilgrimage to Mecca at least once in their lifetime.
Life after Death: Islam teaches that life on earth is a test and that people will be judged in the afterlife based on their deeds, which determines their place in Paradise or Hell.

Sharia (Islamic Law): Sharia is derived from the Qur'an and Hadith (sayings and actions of the Prophet Muhammad), governing aspects of daily life, from personal matters to social and legal issues.

Sects within Islam:
Sunni: The largest branch of Islam, Sunnis believe in the legitimacy of the first four caliphs (leaders) after Muhammad’s death.
Shia: Shia Muslims believe that leadership should have remained within the Prophet's family, particularly with his cousin and son-in-law, Ali.
