I just came across a very recent study (published in JAMA, Nov. 2022) that took 276 people who were diagnosed with anxiety, panic disorder, or social anxiety and split them into two groups.
One group was given the popular anti-anxiety drug Lexapro, while the other was given instructions to meditate for 8 weeks and a two-hour mindfulness class.
The researchers were surprised to discover that the mindfulness group had equally positive results in reducing anxiety as the drug group.
And of course, aside from reducing anxiety, there are a ton of other proven benefits to this practice like:
