"Today's the perfect day for bloodbath." Brainstorm Media has revealed the official US trailer for an action epic about a real moment in history titled Stockholm Bloodbath, yet another new film made by Swedish director Mikael Håfström. He also directed this year's Slingshot, but this film was finished before that one and premiered in Sweden last year - only now getting a US release. Anne and Freja seek revenge on the men who murdered their family. They end up in Stockholm, where they are drawn into a political power struggle between Sweden and Denmark which culminates in a mass execution. Featuring a big cast of international actors, including Sophie Cookson, Claes Bang, and Alba August, Stockholm Bloodbath is an action, adventure, and comedy that follows two sisters who seek revenge on the powerful men who brutally slayed their family. The cast also features Mikkel Boe Følsgaard, Jakob Oftebro, Ulrich Thomsen, Emily Beecham, Thomas Chaanhing, Kate Ashfield, Adam Pålsson, and Wilf Scolding. Damn! This looks big and epic and gnarly. So many split screen shots in this! Even the title cards are split screen. Check it out.

Sometimes, real life hits so hard that events feel like they came straight out of a movie. When it comes to eras like the 16th century, the cruelness and misogyny of ancient people are particularly shocking, and this is the scenario in which Stockholm Bloodbath plays out. The movie centers around two sisters who seek revenge after their family gets murdered, and Brainstorm Media allowed Collider to debut the trailer along with the release date: it premieres simultaneously in theaters and on demand on November 8.

The trailer for Stockholm Bloodbath makes it clear that life isn't easy for sisters Anne (Sophie Cookson) and Freja (Alba August). It was obviously hard enough to be a woman in 1520s Sweden, but their life becomes even more tragic when they are forced to watch their whole family be executed. They have no choice but to team up and go after the men who caused this, which puts both sisters on track to search for their enemies in Stockholm.

In Stockholm, the trailer reveals that the story gets even deeper when the sisters are suddenly caught in the middle of a political power struggle between Sweden and Denmark. They meet power-hungry Danish King Christian II (Claes Bang), who will stop at nothing to seize the Swedish crown. Their paths will cross when the king orders the famous Stockholm Bloodbath execution, a massacre that claimed the lives of one hundred people. The first-look images that Brainstorm Media also shared with Collider reveal the movie's impressive look and some of its moments that evoke the House of The Dragon and Gladiator epic energy.

Stockholm Bloodbath Hails From An Oscar-Nominated Director
Stockholm Bloodbath is directed by Mikael Håfström, who previously helmed Oscar nominee Evil and also directed some horror and thriller hits like Stephen King's 1408, demonic possession story The Rite starring Anthony Hopkins (Westworld), the Jennifer Aniston (Friends) thriller Derailed and Sylvester Stallone (Expendables franchise) and Arnold Schwarzenegger (FUBAR) action-thriller Escape Plan.

In an official statement, Håfström stated that while he doesn't intend Stockholm Bloodbath to be "a history lesson," the “page-turning script that is the perfect foundation for a female-driven, stylish and razor-sharp tale of revenge set against the bloody backdrop of 1520s Stockholm.” The screenplay is written by Erlend Loe (Nord) and Nora Landsrød (Arkitekten). Håfström also teased that Stockholm Bloodbath would be “edgy, darkly humorous, bold, with a profound emotional core.”

Stockholm Bloodbath is set to premiere in theaters and on demand on November 8. You can check out the trailer below:
The 1520 conflict between Sweden and Denmark, known as the "Stockholm Bloodbath," serves as the backdrop for this new medieval thriller from Swedish-born director Mikael Hafstrom, known for "Evil," "1408," and "Escape Plan."

The film, for which an official trailer has been released, stars English actress Sophie Cookson ("Kingsman" Films) and Danish-Swedish actress Alba August (Netflix's "The Rain") as two sisters who embark on a relentless path of revenge against the men who butchered their family during the bloody conflict. Their actions soon provoke the wrath of King Christian II, the mad king of Denmark and Norway, portrayed by Danish actor Claes Bang, known for "The Northman" and BBC/Netflix's "Dracula."

The sisters' quest ignites a reaction from the mad king, leading to a deadly game of survival and retaliation.

"Stockholm Bloodbath" also features co-stars Emily Beecham (Netflix's "1899"), Adam Palsson (Netflix's "Young Wallander"), Ulrich Thomsen (Cinemax's "Banshee"), Jakob Oftebro (1864), and Wilf Scolding (Star Wars: Andor). The film is set to be released in theaters and on VOD on November 8th.
