The Puffin: Close Up HD Footage (Fratercula arctica)
Ever seen a puffin? These brilliant little seabirds are quite the characters, with their bright orange beaks that look a bit like a parrot's. Most people spot them around the British coastline, especially in places like Scotland and Wales. They're proper swimmers, using their wings to basically 'fly' underwater whilst hunting for fish. During breeding season, they dig burrows in clifftop grass where they lay a single egg. Interestingly, they keep the same partner year after year - talk about being faithful! Puffins spend most of their life out at sea, only coming to land for a few months to breed. They're quite small, about the size of a pigeon, but don't let that fool you - they can carry up to 10 small fish in their beak at once! Sadly, these lovely birds are becoming less common due to climate change affecting their food supply. If you want to see them, your best bet is to visit a coastal nature reserve between March and August.
