Rochdale, Telford, Rotherham…or the entire UK?
It all began in the 1980s in the town of Telford. Vulnerable children as young as 11 were picked up, raped, beaten, sold, and killed by grooming gangs for a full forty years. The young girls were tossed from one rapist to another, most of whom were from the Muslim community of British Pakistani origins, and worked in an organized manner. Three girls were murdered and two others died in tragedies linked to the scandal. As many as 1,000 girls suffered in a town of 170,000 people.

A similar racket was unfolding in Rotherham parallelly. Around 1,500 girls were raped, abused, sold, and bought by men of Pakistani descent in a town of 260,000 people. Many victims were gang-raped. The abuse went on unabated from 1997 to 2013.

In Rochdale, the horror began in 2002. At least 47 young girls were subjected to abuse. Such has been the response of administrative and legal authorities that the grooming gangs continue to walk freely on the streets of “great Britain”.

Many victims were living under the care of social services. Young and impressionable girls from vulnerable backgrounds were the usual targets of the jihadi abusers who brainwashed their victims. A love/grooming jihad-like pattern had emerged wherein the victim was befriended by the abuser to gain her trust and manipulate her into believing the savages.

An investigation by the Newcastle police codenamed Operation Sanctuary was launched in 2013 and it revealed that more than 700 girls were reportedly enslaved and abused for years. One of the victims was under the care of the Newcastle council when she was raped.

Those prosecuted were largely British-born Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Iraqi, Iranian, and Turkish, with the exception of one Indian, most were living in the West End of Newcastle. The conspirators not only perpetrated and abetted rapes but also arranged the transport of the victims to the rapists, arranged premises to perpetrate the crime, and dealt with drugs.

The gangs put their hands on every minor girl they could. In Huddersfield, one victim attempted suicide, another had an abortion, and two had learning disabilities. Despite the distressing nature of the crimes, the investigations have been so painfully slow that in Rochdale eight more men were charged as recently as on 27th July this year.

In Telford, the Pakistani perpetrators were running a rape house while they made the victims believe they were in love. They bought alcohol and cigarettes to lure the children. The accused working as taxi drivers or food delivery drivers would target the victims by offering them a lift, buying them fast food, and topping up their mobile phones to eventually make them believe that they were “lovers”.

Studies call this “the boyfriend method” or “the loverboy model”. It is better known as love jihad or grooming jihad in India wherein the accused is almost always a Muslim and the victim a non-Muslim and the act even has religious sanction.

What sends chills down the spine is the added vulnerability of the victims primarily due to an unbothered administration. Authorities in Telford came under heavy criticism for “ignoring” obvious signs of child sexual exploitation. Inquiry into the decades-long scandal revealed that probe agencies did not coordinate efficiently on the details of the cases. Some agencies also dismissed the exploitation and even blamed the victims while the accused jihadis were on the loose.

Furthermore, institutions and persons in professions that dealt with children were discouraged from reporting the abuse. Police and the Telford council “scaled down specialist teams to ‘virtual zero – to save money”. The inquiry findings say that this turning a blind eye to the cases only emboldened the rapists who continued to go on a spree despite some victims approaching the police. The extent of the assault was so damning that the abuses had become “a way of life to which they (the victims) had become accustomed”.

Threatening the victims with murder and threats of harming their families if they complained led many victims to suffer silently at the hands of the Islamists. The accused used the mind-boggling case of Lucy Lowe, who was murdered alongside her mother, sister, and unborn child in August 2000, to tell the other girls that they would meet the same fate if they spoke about the rapes to anyone. “Every boy (accused) would mention it”, the report read.

In a trial at the Worcester Crown Court, evidence showed that one victim was raped while she was four months pregnant. The report said that many of these crimes of brutal rape racket and murder could have been avoided had the “West Mercia Police done its basic job”.

The fact that this inquiry report on the Telford child sexual abuse racket was published only on 12 July 2022 proves just how lightly the cases were taken to be dragged for decades, delaying justice to the victims, and giving a free hand to the criminals.

For example, it was only this year that the Lancashire police admitted the possibility of a link between the disappearance and gruesome murder of Charlene Downes and grooming gangs. The 14-year-old’s body was allegedly minced into pieces and served as kebabs to customers at a takeaway restaurant in her hometown in Blackpool.

In Rotherham, the child sexual abuse scandal had been running for three decades until the 2012 trial which brought it to light. This was followed by an expose of how the authorities put a lid on the cases for years.

It took a public outcry for the Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council to commission an independent inquiry in October 2013. In at least two cases where the fathers approached the police, they ended up being arrested themselves while absolutely no action was taken against the perpetrators.

The inquiry report terms the number of victims (1,400) as a “conservative estimate” hinting that the actual scale of the exploitation could be far bigger. Victims were gang raped, raped by multiple men, trafficked to other towns and cities in the north of England, abducted, beaten, and intimidated.

“There were examples of children who had been doused in petrol and threatened with being set alight, threatened with guns, made to witness brutally violent rapes and threatened they would be next if they told anyone”, the report reads. It further added that the abuse was still continuing.

According to the report, the perpetrators usually targeted children’s residential units and residential services for caregivers. Victims from dysfunctional families in need of attention and affection were often the easy targets. They were picked up by taxi drivers from outside homes, children’s shelters, and schools, which also raised alarms over the same.

The grooming began with a young boy who would first approach the victim and would befriend her over a period of time. The accused would then start introducing the victim to older men and distance them from their families and friends.

With technology, it got easier for jihadis to identify and target their victims. Some of these children were moved to accommodations where they became more vulnerable to the perpetrators. The unaffected approach of authorities abetted for decades the already long-running brutal gangrape of minors by British-Pakistani predators.

The 2013 report mentioned the shocking case of a 12-year-old victim who was made to have sex with five men but a Criminal Investigations Department officer claimed that it should not be categorized as sexual abuse because the girl had been “consensual in every incident”.

Despite there being evidence of child sexual exploitation from the beginning, the inquiry report mentioned that there was a “blatant collective failure of political and officer leadership”. The scale and seriousness of cases were downplayed by senior managers within the social care system, police did not act on the complaints of victims, and reports were suppressed leading to cover-ups.

In some cases, the victims were young boys, which was also underreported. “One young person told us that ‘gang rape’ was a usual part of growing up in the area of Rotherham in which she lived”, the report reads.

Another report published in August 2017 exposed how the victims were repeatedly let down by investigation agencies. It said that on several occasions, the police did not believe the victims. “They were threatened with wasting police time, they were told they had consented to sex and, on occasion, they were arrested at the scene of a crime, rather than the perpetrators.”

In Hull, the gangs targeted primary school girls as young as 9 years old. Jim Gamble, the former head of the child exploitation and online protection service in Hull, told Sky News, “It’s not just about exploitation, it is about rape by appointment.” Recalling the horror, one of the victims said, “I’ll never forget that girl I saw sat there in a primary school uniform, probably eight or nine years old. She was there with her sister, who was a little bit older, and I remember her screaming in that bedroom.”

Rochdale was witness to two child abuse scandals; one which started after 2000 and the second after 2010. In 2008, the case of the grooming gangs of Rochdale came to light only after the police received calls about a 15-year-old smashing a takeaway joint. At the outset, the cops dismissed the incident as an act of vandalism and arrested the teen.

In the course of her six-hour-long statement, the rape victim poured her heart out about the abuse she was being subjected to and the consequent act of vandalism was the release of pent-up frustration.

A grooming gang of nine pedophiles had repeatedly intoxicated, raped, and threatened the victim with violence, known as Girl A. She was driven to and from pedophiles across the north of England. Girl A was only one among many white girls to be abused at the hands of the barbarians.

One of the accused was a Muslim preacher while many others were married Pakistani men with children. At least 47 victims were identified. Victims were also used to recruit other girls for the violent sexual pleasures of the perpetrators. The victims were taken to rooms above takeaway shops, and driven across towns to be raped by gangs of Muslim men.

Police integrity, reliability, and credibility came under heavy fire when it was found that the Northumbria police in Newcastle paid £10,000 to a convicted child rapist in order to spy for them on the notorious network of rapists.

In Rochdale, a lackadaisical administration compelled whistleblower (Margaret) Maggie Oliver, a former cop with the Greater Manchester police investigating the abuses, to resign and turn campaigner to expose the full scale of the scandal, a work which she continues to this day. The pattern of crime resembled across cities as did the pattern of botched-up investigations, political correctness, victim shaming, and delayed justice. As we delve further into the details of the investigation in the second part of this report, here are the names of the accused, at least those identified, from across several UK cities to set the record straight:

In Britain’s ‘worst ever’ child grooming scandal, a Sunday Mirror investigation has revealed that hundreds of young girls in the town of Telford were beaten, raped and sold for sex. Despite repeated warnings, the authorities failed to act against the perpetrators and root out the abuse. According to Mirror, the grooming gangs have been operating in Telford since the 1980s. As many as a thousand girls are feared to have fallen prey to the gangs over the years. Similar heinous crimes had rocked Britain when organized sexual abuse of children, sometimes as young as 13, had emerged in Rotherham and Rochdale. Unfortunately, the establishment in Britain is still not prepared to prioritize the safety and security of their children over hurt sentiments of certain groups.

The distinguishing feature of grooming gangs is that almost always the accused are of British Pakistani heritage and the victims are almost always young white girls. Also, as Peter McLoughlin points out in his book, ‘Easy Meat’. Unlike other instances of sexual exploitation of children where the perpetrator operates alone and under high secrecy for fear of repercussions should his acquaintances discover his crimes, in these cases, perpetrators often belong to the same family and are either brother or cousins mostly. They are lured with drugs and alcohol and cannabis and after a period of systematic brainwashing which involves alienating them from their family and convincing them that their parents are racists, they are plied for sex. Often, the gangs use the victims themselves to get to their neighbours or their friends. Horrifyingly, the gangs even use pregnancy and forced abortions as forms of punishment.

The appalling aspect of these crimes perhaps is the refusal of the authorities to act sternly against the grooming gangs for fear of being labelled racist. The mother of a victim told The Times in 2007, “I was told by one police officer that he did not ‘want to start a race riot’ by arresting Pakistani men for sexual offences.” A report in 2013 in the Daily Mail mentions a victim who alleges she was left to her fate by the police and the Crown Prosecution Service lawyers because they were afraid of appearing racist. She said, “They didn’t want to acknowledge that it was Asian men hitting on white girls in case it started a race thing. It was uncomfortable for them. But it’s not racist if it’s really happening. I never wanted to be part of anyone’s agenda. I just wanted to be rescued.” Then Home Secretary, Theresa May, had blamed the local authorities for allowing ‘institutionalized political correctness’ to hamper their investigation of grooming gangs. Detective Superintendent Mick Gradwell had also warned that research into the problem was being hampered by ‘political correctness and concerns about upsetting community cohesion’. Even the Mirror report on Telford mentions that the authorities failed to act because they feared to appear racist.

The investigation into the menace has proved to be problematic in more ways than one. In many cases, authorities perceived the victims to be consenting to the sex that was involved. For some reason, political correctness or whatever they may be, authorities often regarded the adolescents and their lifestyles as problematic and even took action against them while letting the adults they complained about get away completely without any action or investigation. A confidential report criticized the police for “in all cases” treating young victims “as deviant and promiscuous” while “the men they were found with were never questioned or investigated”. Rachel Loise, of the Coalition for Removal of Pimping (Crop), says, “The perpetrators are the last to be condemned. Prosecutions are rare, and sentencing is not severe enough.” Another issue is on many occasions even the victims do not perceive themselves to be such and under the law of the land, if a girl is 13 or over, then she has to make a complaint herself for the accused to be prosecuted. And the girls are often unwilling to come forward, many times because they are too scared. Also, the girls are threatened with dire consequences if they approach the police. The mother of a victim said that ‘Asian’ men have told her on the phone that they will petrol bomb her house if she sends the police to their place.

Another critical issue has been the unwillingness of the authorities to address the issue using proper terms in order to avoid appearing racist. Then MP for Keighley, Anne Cryer, blamed “Asian Culture” for the grooming gang epidemic although Hindus and Sikhs and Jains and Buddhists have never been associated with the phenomenon. In fact, it was the Sikhs who have been highlighting the phenomenon, as recorded by Peter McLoughlin in his book, when Sikh girls had fallen victims to the gangs. In 2012, a joint statement by the Network of Sikh Organizations UK, The Sikh Media Monitoring Group UK and The Hindu Forum condemned the blanket use of the term ‘Asian’ and said that it was unfair to other communities of Asian origin. It also asserted that the unwillingness of the media and the government to discuss the religious identity of the perpetrators was fueling the rise of far-right groups in the country. They further stated, “We believe that in this case, the government itself is sanctioning the use of term Asian as a way of clouding responsibility.”

In his book, ‘Easy Meat’, Peter McLoughlin records that Sikh groups were aware of the phenomenon and were trying to warn everyone before anyone else. Even last year, when Labour MP Sarah Champion was fired from Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet for calling out the ethnicity of the rapists and alleging that there had been attempts to cover it up for far too long. Hindu and Sikh organizations had commended the MP and the states that Hindu and Sikh girls were raped and groomed by the gangs for decades. Thus, calling the groups and the rapists “Asian” is a gross affront towards Hindus and Sikhs who have also suffered as a consequence of the authorities’ hesitation towards tackling the crime.

Britain’s refusal to confront the menace in an honest manner has allowed such grooming gangs to flourish with impunity for decades. After Rotherham and Rochdale, the grooming gangs have now been discovered to be operating in Bradford, Oxford, Newcastle, London, Leicester, it is really happening across the lengths and breadth of the country. And the denial of the authorities and the establishment to even acknowledge the existence of such a phenomenon and the deliberate obfuscation of the religious identity of the perpetrators have allowed them to flourish for decades. The only way to solve the menace and to protect the children is to tackle the issue head-on.

Quite obviously, there are lessons from the phenomenon in Britain for Indians too. We must not brush away the allegations of Love Jihad in haste without proper investigation into the matter. As India Today’s expose has revealed, the radical Islamic organization, Popular Front of India (PFI) has been involved in the brainwashing of Hindu and Christian women, converting them to Islam and marrying them off to Muslim men as part of a larger conspiracy to turn India into an Islamic theocratic state. Also, Indian parents must keep a closer eye on the behaviour of their daughters and their turning to drugs or alcohol should be an immediate red flag as it has been observed in Britain that the grooming gangs lure the children with drugs and alcohol at first before forcing them into prostitution. Our legal authorities must also consider the opinions of the parents more credible in such cases than the victims as it has been discovered in Britain that in many such cases, the victims develop some sort of a Stockholm Syndrome and do not perceive themselves as such and are often not willing to come forward and implicate their tormentors. Our children must not be sacrificed at the altar of political correctness and their safety and security should be awarded more prominence than any misguided ideal.

As CBN News reported in 2016, as many as one million white English children may have been the victims of Muslim rape gangs, better known as grooming gangs, in towns up and down Great Britain since the 1980s.

At-risk white English girls, often from broken homes and some as young as nine years old, are wooed or "groomed" by teenage Muslim boys called 'Romeos' and even by groups of Muslim men who hang around school gates. The girl is made to feel important and is given gifts and drugs. She is being groomed to be a drug addicted prostitute. Then they are gang raped. The girls are threatened with death if they try to flee.

One expert calculated that a British Muslim male is 170 times more likely than non-Muslim to be a part of a sex grooming gang. And there are no recorded instances of non-Muslims doing this to Muslim girls as part of a criminal enterprise.

In one local jurisdiction, it was estimated that six out of seven Muslim males either knew about, or were part of, a grooming gang.

In the Newcastle case, Northumbrian Police said the suspects were from "Bangladesh, Pakistan, Iran, Iraq, Kurdistan, Turkey, Albania and Eastern (Europe)."

And yet, Chief Constable Steve Ashman told a press conference: “I don’t think it’s for me to point the finger at a particular community."

A whistle blower in the Newcastle case blasted British police's "lukewarm response" to the problem, saying, "It just upsets me – how many more lives have been destroyed?"

One prominent Labour Party leader said, "People are more afraid to be called a racist than they are afraid to be wrong about calling out child abuse."

British policy analyst George Igler told CBN News, "If you are a young English girl, particularly between the ages of nine and 14, and you find yourself subject to the perversions of Muslim men, you effectively exist in a country where the forces of law and order don't exist at all."

Why OpIndia has decided to use ‘Grooming Jihad’ instead of ‘Love Jihad’ moving forward
Non-Muslim women are being groomed to accept their own subjugation at the hands of Muslim men. They are kidnapped, raped, lured, converted to Islam, punished and brainwashed. There is no 'Love' in these crimes against humanity. There is no ambiguity that it is a form of Jihad. It is time to call it what it is - Grooming Jihad.

In a case that was widely termed as one of ‘Love Jihad, a girl in Sonbhadra was beheaded and buried, shabbily, when she refused to convert to Islam by a man she had married. Her dismembered body was found when women saw a dog, walkabout nonchalantly with her severed hand in her mouth. In Haryana, a woman named Nikita Tomar was shot in broad daylight by one Tauseef because she refused to return his advances.

Her parents say she was also being forced to convert to Islam. In fact, it was revealed that Tauseef’s mother had called Nikita and asked her to convert to Islam. She refused. She was killed. In the case of the Kausambhi rape, the barbarians had asked the minor girl to plead for mercy in the name of Allah.

The atrocity does not stop there. There are cases where Muslim men pretend to be Hindus and when their identity is revealed, either by accident or by design, forcing the girl to convert to Islam, they kill the Hindu woman they had wedded. One remembers Subhologna Chakraborty, shot dead by her soon-to-be-husband Sultan who was posing as a Hindu.

While the Left dismisses these occurrences as a figment of the ‘right-wing imagination’, the cases are real. The dead bodies are also real and the threat is imminent.

The case that emerge can broadly be categorised into the following:

Where a Muslim man pretends to be a Hindu and traps a Hindu woman. Thereafter, his real identity is revealed either as an accident or, when they force the women to convert to Islam. Thereafter, the man proceeds to, more often than not, murder the Hindu woman.
The Hindu woman and the Muslim man get married, knowing each others’ identity fully well, however, after marriage, torture to convert to Islam ensues.
Hindu woman is raped in the name of Islam – the case was most evident in the Kausambhi gang rape case where a minor Hindu girl was raped and asked to beg for mercy in the name of Allah. The perpetrators specifically asked the girl not to beg for mercy in the name of Bhagwan. In these cases, the aim could either be the conversion of the Hindu woman or, it could be seen as a mere punishment being dished out to Kafir women.
One-sided obsession of a Muslim man with a Hindu girl that ends in murder, rape or torture when the girl refuses his advances. In several cases, the refusal also includes the refusal to convert to Islam, like in the case of Nikita Tomar, however, even without the element of conversion to Islam, these cases have been widely been seen as an act of Jihad.
Where Hindu woman or underage girls are married to Muslim men after being raped and converted to Islam. Such cases are most prominent in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and elsewhere. In such cases, one often sees that after the marriage and conversion, the girl says that she has converted to Islam and married the man out of her own free will. One such case was recently seen in Pakistan where a 13-year-old Christian girl was handed over to her 44-year-old abductor, and while the parents wailed, she claimed that she had converted willingly. In such cases, a parallel to UK grooming gangs becomes necessary to understand that the mere statement of the girl cannot and should not get us to assume that there was no angle of Jihad here.
All the categories of crimes against women we see, listed above, point to one stark and daunting reality – the subjugation of non-Muslim women, their grooming to make them ripe for Jihad (whether that is fighting in Syria or simply to induct them into the fold of Islam for the purpose of increasing population/numbers or for inflicting punishment for being ‘Kafir’), and the tyranny inflicted upon them, including severe brainwashing is an integral part of ‘Jihad’ itself.

Non-Muslim women have been at the heart of Islamic subjugation historically. There are several stories of women being taken captive or even their mortal remains being desecrated after the Islamic conquest of Hindu lands and the defeat of Hindu rulers. In the contemporary world, the Bhola massacre comes to mind. In October 2001, in Bhola districts, Lalmohan region, Hindus were attacked by Muslims. The attackers rushed into Hindu homes, looted their belongings, cut down their trees, destroyed their crops. In Bhola’s Char Fasson, BNP supported Muslims had attacked and raped over 200 Hindu women. The youngest victim was 8. The eldest was a 70-year-old woman.

Years later, a Judicial Commission inquiry in Bangladesh had concluded that over 25,000 leaders and local party workers of the then ruling BNP and Jamat-e-Islami were involved in the attack against Hindus and other minorities that had led to hundreds of deaths, injuries and had forced the Hindus in Bangladesh to flee into India.

Bhola is not the only example. In India, there are several cases where, if one really wants to, one can see a pattern in how Muslims tend to use non-Muslim women as an essential pawn in their Jihad. In 2018, a Muslim man was detained for forcing his wife to convert to Islam and then, attempting to sell her to become an ISIS sex slave. Since 2018, several such cases have emerged from Kerala, as almost a syndicate was unearthed. Even the Christian community has raised alarm.

One recalls the attacks in Cologne, Germany where hoards of Muslim men molested and attempted to rape non-Muslim women. The men first surround their victim in circles. Some then sexually assault her, while others not directly involved watched or diverted outsiders’ attention to what was occurring. In 2011, it was CBS reporter Lara Logan who was on video right before she was attacked by hoards of Muslim men. While some, who have made a career out of defending Islam and its crimes claim that ‘Taharrush’ merely refers to ‘flirting’, the lived-experience of what Taharrush refers to is extremely different.

In the United Kingdom again, the phenomenon of Grooming Gangs have gone largely unreported in India, even though, India is one country that perhaps faces the lion’s share of Jihadi activity. Grooming Gangs are mostly made up of Muslim men in the UK, who prey on young girls and even women, identify their vulnerability and rape them repeatedly as a punishment for being non-Muslim. Several people in the UK have termed this ‘Rape Jihad’ even though the authorities in the UK refused to act decisively against these gangs for fear of allegations of being racist.

In his book, ‘Easy Meat’, Peter McLoughlin records that Sikh groups were aware of the phenomenon and were trying to warn everyone before anyone else. Even last year, when Labour MP Sarah Champion was fired from Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet for calling out the ethnicity of the rapists and alleging that there had been attempts to cover it up for far too long. Hindu and Sikh organizations had commended the MP and the states that Hindu and Sikh girls were raped and groomed by the gangs for decades. Thus, calling the groups and the rapists “Asian” is a gross affront towards Hindus and Sikhs who have also suffered as a consequence of the authorities’ hesitation towards tackling the crime.

According to a study by the Sikh Mediation and Rehabilitation Team charity, Pakistani men have been grooming Sikh girls in Britain for decades for sexual abuse and rape. The study also claims that the Police ‘recklessly ignored’ complaints about reasons of ‘political correctness’.The report was accessed by Daily Mail. It says, “The research has found verification demonstrating a history of predominantly Pakistani grooming gangs targeting young Sikh females for over 50 years.” It also asserts, “The over-representation of such perpetrators in selecting non-Muslim victims would appear to be indicative of a wider acceptability in certain sections of the community towards the targeting of young females from outside of the Pakistani community and/or Muslim faith.”

The report says that the failure of local authorities to recognize the menace has allowed such networks to flourish. It says, “Over the course of three decades, Sikh community leaders in the West Midlands repeatedly assert that when families or community representatives contacted the police regarding the abuse of children, their information was consistently met with disinterest and their claims met by inaction.” And “With the emergence of multiple similar cases across the UK, the perceived failure to act has now been attributed to the ‘political correctness’ that inhibited authorities and agencies from addressing the racial and cultural dimensions understood as causative factors behind the abuse.”

According to the report authorised by Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham to investigate the historic failings of police and social workers, a paedophile network of about 100 suspected assaulters is accused of exploiting 57 young girls in south Manchester in the 2000s. The report states that the gang primarily consisted of Asian men, who hooked their victims on drugs, primed, and sexually abused them. One girl, aged 15, died after being injected with heroin by a 50-year-old man. The report, which was published after a two-year enquiry, stated that vulnerable girls in care were groomed and abused in “plain sight”.

The report was a scathing indictment of the Greater Manchester Police (GMP) which is believed to have been biased in tackling grooming gangs comprised of predominantly Asian Muslim men. Stating that “fears over race relations” ran high, it stated that the GMP and city council shelved an investigation because officers were wary of “many sensitive community issues” around enforcing the law in south Manchester in 2002 and 2003.

The Detective Superintendent, while submitting his findings to the report panel, claimed that though his investigative decisions were not influenced by the concerns about inciting community tensions, the senior officers in the gold command group were of the opinion that the impact had to be “clearly considered”

What happened in the UK with respect to Grooming Gangs was rather evident, to all but those who wish to water down crimes committed by members of the Muslim community – Muslim men were preying on non-Muslim girls and women in wage a sort of ‘Jihad’ that many have termed ‘rape jihad’.

These girls, Sikhs, Hindus and White girls were brainwashed, raped, injected with drugs, some killed or converted and essentially, punished for being non-Muslim. A similar case had also happened in India – that of Ajmer Dargah, where hundreds of non-Muslim girls were sexually exploited, way back in 1992. It is still spoken about in hushed tones, with no real discussion over the root cause of such cases.

In India, the only organised syndicate that we speak of now is the phenomenon of ‘Love Jihad’.

The NIA for example had observed this in 2017: “A pattern emerges from similar cases that have been reported from Kerala. In multiple cases, the persons who play a role in approaching young girls help them in conversion, give them shelter and get them married to Muslims, appear to be common. They seem to approach young girls who appear distressed because of disagreement with parents”.

What the NIA defines as ‘Love Jihad’ comes eerily close to what UK went through with the Grooming Gang phenomenon. However, there are several other categories of crimes that don’t fit into the narrow definition of ‘Love Jihad’ per se.

It is rather evident that non-Muslim women are, as we said earlier, at the heart of the Jihad that is waged by radical Muslims. From the categories of crimes, we see in India as listed above to Tahharush, Grooming Gangs and also, the mass subjugation we saw in Bhola.

But does all of these come under the periphery of what we today define as Love Jihad? In its strictest form, Love Jihad would mean that a non-Muslim woman, mostly Hindus in India, are lured into marriage with a Muslim man for the strict purpose of conversion to Islam. In this, the element of how the Muslim man lured his victim and how the conversion came to be extremely important. In this strict definition, the nuances that often lie outside the margins of the definition get terribly missed.

Now, when a Muslim man ‘lures’ a woman into a relationship with him by exploiting her vulnerabilities, it is entirely possible that after marriage, she girl says that she converted willingly. Let us assume that an underage girl, about 14 hails from an extremely economically weak background. How difficult is it for a grown man to lure this girl and make her believe that he genuinely cares for her and is capable of giving her a good life even though, he might not mean it and is saying so simply to brainwash the child so he can convert her to Islam?

Thereafter, if the girl is tortured and continues to stay shackled by the man, how difficult is it for the deniers of Love Jihad to simply claim that though the thought of a 14-year-old getting married to a 20-year-old is despicable and against the law, the element of “jihad” is missing since the girl refuses to admit to forced conversion?

Would a crime like Taharrush, or one that we saw in Bhola, be considered ‘Love Jihad’? Would even the murder of Nikita Tomar be called ‘Love Jihad’ in its strict definition since Nikita and her murderer were never really in a relationship to begin with and she was murdered not only because she resisted her advances but also his pressure to convert to Islam?

It is because of the narrow definition of a term like ‘Love Jihad’ that the Left is now attempting to twist it to allege that the term Love Jihad is simply used because ‘extremist Hindus’ are against inter-faith marriages, whereas, the phenomenon is far from being about consensual relationships.

It is for these reasons that OpIndia has now decided to do away with the term ‘Love Jihad’ in its parlance and reportage. There is no ‘Love’ in Jihad and even if accept the term along with its problematic syntax, it fails to capture the severity of the Jihad that is being waged by sections of radical Muslims that specifically target non-Muslim women. We believe that the term ‘Grooming Jihad’ is far more appropriate since it encapsulates within itself all categories of crimes that keep women at the centre of this Jihad.
