"If anyone can do it, it's you, young bear." Time for an adventure! Studiocanal UK has revealed the second official trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Paddington in Peru continuing the adorable adventures of the Paddington Bear after the beloved Paddington (2014) & Paddington 2 (2017). In this, Paddington and his adopted family – the Browns – decide to visit his Aunt Lucy in Peru, only to end up lost in the Amazon rainforest (inspired by Herzog's Fitzcarraldo?). An adventure begins when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up the mountain peaks of Peru. This British comedy adventure sequel stars Hugh Bonneville, Emily Mortimer, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Carla Tous, and Antonio Banderas, plus Olivia Colman as "The Reverend Mother." Plus the voices of Ben Whishaw as Paddington Brown and Imelda Staunton as Aunt Lucy. This is a much better trailer than the other teaser, packing in tons of wacky footage involving llamas, Machu Picchu, and more Peruvian animals & locations. Looks like it will be proper fun! Will definitely be watching.

Development
In June 2016, the then StudioCanal CEO Didier Lupfer stated that the studio was committed to making a third Paddington film.[2] In November 2017, David Heyman told Digital Spy that though the script for a third film had not been developed, discussions about locations, ideas and scenes had already begun.[3] In November 2018, Heyman noted that a third film was likely to happen, but that Paul King would not be back to direct, though he would still be involved in a prominent creative capacity.[4] In February 2021, Paddington 3 officially began development.[5]
In July 2021, StudioCanal announced that Paddington 3 would begin shooting in the first quarter of 2022. The story for the third film was written by King, Simon Farnaby, and Mark Burton, and the screenplay by Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont.[6] The story was influenced by the Werner Herzog films Aguirre, the Wrath of God and Fitzcarraldo, due to such films showcasing Peru's incredible variety of landscapes, crazy geology, friendly people and its mysterious Inca mythology, with a Peruvian legend underlying the whole plot and the characters donning traditional-looking clothes in the rural Andes despite counting with modern mopeds and mobile phones.[7] In June 2022, the film's title Paddington in Peru and Dougal Wilson as director were announced, with principal photography now set to begin 2023. It is the feature film directorial debut of Wilson, who previously directed commercials and music videos.[8] In February 2023, Paddington voice actor Ben Whishaw stated that he had yet to read a script and was unsure whether development was continuing.[9] By April, the film was confirmed to still be in development.[10]
Casting and filming
In June, it was announced that Whishaw, Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, Jim Broadbent, Madeleine Harris, Samuel Joslin and Imelda Staunton were set to reprise their roles from the previous films, with Olivia Colman, Antonio Banderas, Rachel Zegler and Emily Mortimer added to the cast. Mortimer was replacing Sally Hawkins in the role of Mrs. Brown, who she played in the first two films.[11][12]
Filming commenced in the United Kingdom on 24 July as planned,[13] despite reports that it was delayed due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.[14] The film was also shot in Colombia and Peru. Filming began without Zegler as she had left for the United States to participate in picketing during the strike;[13][15] Carla Tous later took over the role of Gina Cabot, as Zegler was unable to commit due to the strike.[16] Filming was completed in October 2023.[17]
Post-production
Visual effects for the film are provided by Framestore.[18]
Music
The music was composed by Dario Marianelli.[19]
Marketing
In a brand tie-in, Jo Malone released a limited edition Paddington-themed marmalade cologne in early July 2024.[20] A series of Paddington statues will be placed across parts of the UK in early October to promote the film.[21]
Release
In May 2023, StudioCanal sold a majority of territories including North America to Sony Pictures for distribution. StudioCanal holds the distribution rights for the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Benelux, Australia and New Zealand, while Sony will distribute the film elsewhere except China, Japan and Russia.[22][23] In October 2023, the film was dated for a theatrical release in the United Kingdom on 8 November 2024, by StudioCanal UK, followed by a theatrical release in the United States on 17 January 2025, by Columbia Pictures through Sony Pictures Releasing.[24]
Future
During the Brand Licensing Europe 2024 convention in London, StudioCanal CEO Françoise Guyonnet and head of global sales Sissel Henno revealed that Canal+ is already working on a fourth Paddington film and a spin-off television series, given their focus to "turn a heritage brand into a global phenomenon" by delving deeper into the "ongoing journey of Paddington from a classic character to a worldwide cultural phenomenon", estimating the releases of both productions around 2027 and 2028, where the franchise would have its 70th anniversary. They also announced that by the end of 2024 they will be launching the West End theatre production Paddington: The Musical with producer Sonia Freeman, lyricist Tom Fletcher, writer Jessica Swale and director Luke Sheppard.[25]

Everyone's favorite bear is headed for glorious adventure in the third Paddington film: Paddington in Peru.
The latest trailer for Paddington in Peru has marmalade-loving Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw) returning to his homeland of Peru — with the entire Brown family in tow. Their mission? To find his Aunt Lucy, who's gone missing from the Home for Retired Bears, run by the Reverend Mother (Wonka's Olivia Colman).
His quest will lead him to boat captain Hunter Cabot (Antonio Banderas), who's on the hunt for the treasure-filled El Dorado. According to legend, a bear will lead the way there, meaning Paddington may find his Aunt Lucy and some gold to boot!
Of course, he'll have to get through bumpy plane and boat rides first, not to mention an encounter with a rolling boulder right out of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Here's hoping he'll get a nice big marmalade sandwich at the end of all his troubles.
Everyone’s favorite marmalade-loving British bear, Paddington, is back in the first trailer for “Paddington in Peru.”
The third installment in the series — which lands some seven years after “Paddington 2” — is set to release on Jan. 17, 2025, in the U.S. by Sony under its Columbia Pictures label, about two months after it releases in the United Kingdom on Nov. 8, 2024, with StudioCanal. The logline reads, “Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now resides at the Home for Retired Bears. With the Brown Family in tow, a thrilling adventure ensues when a mystery plunges them into an unexpected journey through the Amazon rainforest and up to the mountain peaks of Peru.”

The trailer, unveiled at a special event in London on Wednesday morning (where marmalade sandwiches were served), sees Paddington — voiced by Ben Whishaw — head back to the South American country of his birth alongside his adoptive London family, where they meet several new characters, including Olivia Colman‘s guitar-wielding nun (who leads the retired bears home) and Antonio Banderas’ swashbuckling boat captain. Hugh Bonneville (who introduced the trailer via a video from the set of “Downton Abbey 3”) returns as Mr. Brown, while Mrs. Brown is this time played by Emily Mortimer, Sally Hawkins having decided to leave the franchise after two films. Julie Walters steps back into the shoes of Mrs. Bird and Imelda Staunton again voices Aunt Lucy.

“The first film gave us a bit of information about where Paddington came from and how he found his home in London, and in then the second story he almost loses that home but in doing he consolidates his community in London and we also find out a little bit more about Paddington’s origins and how he was rescued,” said director Dougal Wilson, speaking at the trailer launch. “So there’s a lot of missing information about what happens before that and we thought for the third film it would be very appropriate for him to return to Peru, but this time taking his London friends and community with him and have an adventure there and, in doing so, fill in some of the missing pieces.”
David Heyman and Rosie Alison produced “Paddington in Peru,” while Paul King, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern, Dan MacRae, Tim Wellspring, Jeffrey Clifford and Naoya Kinoshita, all served as executive producers.
The first two films of the trilogy, which were both directed by Paul King (who later went on to direct “Wonka”), have earned more than $500 million at the global box office.

Marmalade sandwiches and cups of tea at the ready, people - the first trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Paddington 3 (officially titled Paddington in Peru) has landed.
The two minute teaser kicks off with Paddington getting his passport photo done in a booth at Paddington station (of course), preparing for his adventure across the seas. There's just one slight hiccup, though, as he's told no hats are allowed. As it turns out, Paddington forgot he had a marmalade sandwich on his head - classic!
Paddington and the Brown family are heading to Peru to the Home For Retired Bears to meet Aunt Lucy, but once there they encounter another obstacle: Aunt Lucy has set off on a quest into the wilderness and no one knows where she is. As Paddington tells us, she found him as a cub and so he must now find her. Let the journey to find Aunt Lucy in Peru begin!

The trailer also introduces us to franchise newcomers Olivia Colman and Antonio Banderas. We see the former as a nun working at the retirement home, with one scene teasing that Colman will have her own Sound of Music moment as she stands in a field with a guitar. At the world exclusive trailer event attended by GamesRadar+, director Dougal Wilson teased that Colman plays a"fun, singing nun" which already has us excited.
Banderas, meanwhile, plays "a swashbuckling adventurer who buckles swash like no one else" according to Wilson, which we get a glimpse of in the footage as he welcomes the Brown family upon reaching Peru.
The teaser should ease any fears fans have regarding the change of director helming this next chapter. Whilst filmmaker Paul King directed the previous two installments, he was too busy bringing magic to our screens with Wonka (although he remains on-board here as producer).

This time, Wilson (who is arguably best known for his work making several John Lewis Christmas adverts) is behind the camera. Perhaps bring the tissues for this threequel, then.
Paddington in Peru marks his feature directorial debut, with Wilson telling the audience that whilst at first he was "excited and flattered" upon being approached to helm this threequel, that "soon gave way to terror as the first two films set a high bar to follow".
As heard in the footage, Ben Whishaw is back as the marmalade-loving bear whilst the likes of Hugh Bonneville, Julie Walters, and Imelda Staunton (the voice of Aunt Lucy) return too.
They will be joined by newbies Banderas, Colman, and Emily Mortimer, with the latter taking over from actor Sally Hawkins to portray Mary Brown. With the film releasing later this year on British shores, it won't be long until we find out exactly what they bring to the beloved series.

Dougal Wilson directs the third “Paddington” feature, taking over from franchise director Paul King, who directed 2015’s “Paddington” and 2017’s “Paddington 2.” The film hails from Studiocanal and Heyday, with the story originating from King, Simon Farnaby, and Mark Burton with a screenplay by Burton, Jon Foster, and James Lamont. The films are adapted from Michael Bond’s children’s stories.
King went on to direct “Wonka,” which also starred “Paddington in Peru” actress Colman.
And while “Paddington” star Whishaw was at first skeptical the third film would get made, he brought Paddington back for a short film featuring Queen Elizabeth II for the late ruler’s Jubilee.
“Paddington 2” was a critically acclaimed hit and famously held a 100-percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. As the IndieWire review stated at the time, “Less than a week into the new year, and it’s already here: the best film of 2018. The rare sequel that improves upon the original, and in turn makes the still rarer case for a franchise to continue on as long as it possibly can, ‘Paddington 2’ is about as clever and sweet a crowd-pleasing as any movie — not just one primarily aimed at the younger set and their families.”
“Paddington in Peru” premieres November 8 in UK and Irish theaters. The film does not yet have a U.S. release date. Check out the trailer below.
