When Pep Guardiola sent on Phil Foden at Molineux looking for an impact, he almost certainly didn’t desire the England star leaving one of his Manchester City team-mates a bloody mess.

But in the 74th minute of City’s Premier League showdown with Wolves - with the champions being held by the division’s bottom side - that’s exactly what happened - unfortunately for Bernardo Silva.
Jack Grealish had just entered the fray when he whipped a cross to the far post. Rushing in at the back stick, the Portuguese had his eye on the ball.
But so did Foden, and he, unfortunately for Bernardo, wasn’t looking to get a head on it, but instead raised a boot looking for something more acrobatic. He nicked the ball with the tip of his boot - but also ended up planting his studs into Bernardo’s forehead.
Immediately he rolled off the field, then did that thing that all footballers’ do - rolled straight back on.

Referee Chris Kavanagh blew the whistle to stop the game and Wolves ‘keeper Jose Sa - an international team-mate - called for the medical staff, with blood gushing from the centre of the Manchester City man’s forehead.
City's medical team were quickly across the field to administer treatment, cleaning the wound and applying plenty of vaseline in an attempt to ensure there was no repeat of the Matthijs de Ligt situation at Old Trafford on Saturday.
