Las Vegas Metro police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in the northwest valley.

According to LVMPD, the shooting took place near west Flamingo Road and south Fort Apache Road.Las Vegas Metro police were on the scene of an officer-involved shooting in the west valley on Friday.

On Oct. 18, around 9 p.m., the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a suspicious vehicle with a stolen license plate near a business on west Flamingo and south Fort Apache roads.

Upon arrival, officers said they saw the car leave the scene. They later found the vehicle and a woman who fled on foot. An officer confronted her as she reached into her bag, and believing she was armed, he discharged his firearm, LVMPD said.Officers said the woman then ran into a nearby backyard and barricaded herself in a shed. LVMPD SWAT and Crisis Negotiators were called to the scene and were able to take her into custody, according to police.

Medical attention was requested, but police said it was confirmed that the woman was not hit by gunfire.
