This broadcast is actually an adaptation of an adaptation, since Emlyn Williams produced the London stage success from the French novel Prenez Garde a la Peinture. This radio version has been transferred-setting and characters complete-to Ulster, and listeners who saw the stage version may be astonished to find that Gwenny Thomas , for example, the Welsh character played by Edith Evans , becomes Bridget, a woman with a Southern Ireland voice, played by Nita Hardie. On the other hand a precedent for this change of locale was seen in the film version, in which Lionel Barrymore and the late Marie Dressler appeared and the scene was shifted to the American Middle West.
