The game was later released internationally for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988.

In this game, Link embarks on a quest to awaken Princess Zelda from a sleeping spell by seeking the Triforce of Courage. Unlike its predecessor, Zelda II features side-scrolling areas within a larger top-down world map. The game incorporates role-playing elements such as experience points, magic spells, and a strategic combat system. It also introduced the “magic meter” and the character Dark Link, which would become staples in future Zelda games.

The gameplay is a significant departure from the first game, with a focus on side-scrolling action and role-playing mechanics. Despite its differences, Zelda II remains a beloved and unique entry in the Legend of Zelda series.
